This is a premium piece of real estate. Tall apartment buildings and more coffee shops, delis, and banks are not what we need or want. This developer’s vision is limited by his desire to wring or squeeze as much money out of this square footage as possible. I would ask the city council to apply a little vision and imagination themselves. This corner could be used for something that really defines and enriches our community. Hold out for something better, different, something that does no harm, at least.
Lafayette and the community around it are at an important turning point. Please don’t ruin our wonderful community with gratuitous over-development. Developers will always push for more and more and more development, until nothing is left!
We just moved to this location and are integrating into this community. We came from Arizona, where my hometown was overcome by development just like this. Used to be cornfields, now is just housing upon housing (and somehow, still nothing affordable to be found).
The reason we moved to this area was its open space and farmland. If development like this is allowed to continue, local housing values will be damaged, traffic will get worse, and wildlife won't have the open space that Colorado is so famous for. We don't need developers lining their pockets off our neighborhoods. If you want to see how that turns out, visit Gilbert, AZ and stare in horror at the warehouses, apartment complexes, and traffic on every street.
I vehemently oppose this development, and hope our city councilors make the right choice here!
Colorado is such a beautiful state and had grown exponentially over the last decade I've been here. I've seen beautiful areas turned into malls, apartments, houses and all though I understand that's part of the game this area that they want to add tall buildings to doesn't make any sense. Layfette is a beautiful area with so many wonderful nature areas and doesn't need a monstrosity like this being built there. Find somewhere else to put it.
The SW corner of 287 and Arapahoe is an active water fowl and bird habitat, so little of which remains from this area. Is there any way to preserve that small corner as open space with a walking path around the marsh area? In addition, the Arapahoe Road commute corridor down to Boulder is already too congested with traffic. It can take over 10 minutes to turn left on Arapahoe during large blocks of rush hour time during the day. This area does not have the infrastructure to support more traffic and people. The thing we like about Boulder County is our open space. I’m all for developing more affordable housing, but can we please make smarter choices about where and how we put it in? Thank you.
