The students shouldn’t have to go through fear, trauma, and anxiety all over again. It shouldn’t take another weapon to be brought into school just to get the basic safety for those at the school. This is long overdue.
As an apalachee student it's scary realization that September 4th could've happened again, I don't want to go through a traumatic event again and the board and Apalachee must take action to make me and other students feel safe at our safe pleace
My mom has been a teacher at Apalachee since its founding. AHS has been a secondary home to me for most of my life. It is deeply unnerving to fear for not only my mother’s safety, but all of the other teachers who are family to me, the students, the custodial staff, the administrators. Although the events of Sept 4th were unprecedented in Apalachee’s history, immediate safety measures should have been taken to enable the secure return of all students, teachers, staff, and administrators. It is ridiculous that, since Sept 4th very little in terms of policy and security has changed. The Barrow County School District’s negligence only serves to enable more copy cats, intent on feeding off of the infamy of Colt Gray and his horrible acts of violence on Apalachee’s campus. The Barrow County School Board is clear in its disrespect for the safety and security of all who attend and work at its schools. No matter the financial cost, safety should always be the priority. Returning students and faculty to campuses merely 2 weeks after the incident on Sept 4th was disgusting enough, especially without more strident efforts towards security. Do they expect students to return again when the risk continues? What about the teachers whose income and livelihood requires them to put themselves in danger every day? I’m deeply disturbed and disappointed in Barrow County’s lack of care for those in their schools. They must agree to strict security policies and technologies before any students, faculty, staff, or administrators return.
I am a student in the barrow county school system, a freshmen. And every day that I go to school I fear that another shooting or something will happen. There are no wear near enough safety measures in place. I would rather have to go through a metal detector and use clear book bags then get shot. None of this should have been able to happen in the first place and it’s disgusting and disappointing that our country is like this, we need change!
