Dear Supporters,
We are devastated to share that another incident occurred in our school community yesterday. Despite months of advocacy following the tragic shooting at Apalachee High School, the Barrow County Board of Education has yet to take meaningful steps to protect our students and staff.
Since September, Change for Chee has:
- Attended Board of Education meetings and work sessions.
- Engaged with the School Governance Team.
- Repeatedly advocated for clear safety policies and preventative safety measures.
Yesterday’s incident underscores the urgent need for action. We are demanding that the Board of Education implement the following measures without delay:
- Clear Book Bag Policies: A simple, effective step to reduce risks.
- AI-Powered Weapons Detectors: Technology to proactively detect weapons
- Regular Town Halls: Transparent forums to improve communication and accountability.
Here’s how you can help:
- Join Us Today: We’re hosting a rally at 3 PM before the emergency Board of Education meeting at 4 PM. Join us at 179 W Athens St, Winder, GA 30680 to show your support and demand action.
- Share this Petition: Send it to your friends, family, and networks. Encourage them to sign and amplify our message.
- Contact Local Officials: Email or call members of the Barrow County Board of Education and Superintendent Dr. Dallas LeDuff, urging them to prioritize safety measures now.
- Stay Informed: Follow our updates and join us in holding decision-makers accountable for keeping our schools safe.
Our children and teachers deserve to feel secure every day at school. We cannot wait any longer for meaningful change.
Thank you for your continued support and dedication to this cause.
Together, we can make a difference. Love with action will prevail.
With love and determination,
Layla Renee Contreras
