I am disabled and am sole caregiver for a disabled child and an elderly and ailing parent. My rent has increased by over 30% in two years. Renters rights deserve to pass without concessions. My family is at risk of being priced out of living with dignity. We all deserve better!

Rent is so high now I will be homeless if it goes up again. I have to sell personal items just to keep a tiny apt.

I have an 11 year old daughter with a rare genetic condition called CASK Gene mutation. She is nonverbal and has severe developmental disabilities along with epilepsy. She had multiple doctor appointments at Seattle Children's every month and 4 therapy appointments weekly. She has qualified for the maximum level of Personal Care Hours through the DDA waiver but have been unable to find a qualified care giver. I can't work because the amount of time I would have to take off to take her to all of her therapy and doctors appointments is substantial. This has put a severe strain on our family financially.

In the 70’s, both Ferris and Shadle Park had horticulture classes. Not everyone wants to take chemistry and these classes kept kids interested in science. I am now 69 and gardening has been my passion since high school at Ferris.

This class saved my life, it gave me a place where I was able to be understood. It would be a disservice to children to get rid of this

Most people in our generation have already forgotten how to care for the earth and how to live in awareness of the delicate balance that we must maintain to promote sustainable health. We need to give the next generation every opportunity to succeed in this and become more holistic humans. I would argue that the practical skills of earth tending are even more important than math.

Classes like this are the kind of classes that breathe life into academia. Math and science have value, but they have the most value when students see them in action. Don’t take meaning away from our youth.

I took this class for 4 years! It was one of the BIGGEST influencing classes I took. I still use many principles I learned in this class today and I graduated in 1987! We need more classes like this that teaches more that pertains to everyday life and skills you can use outside of school. I was not into sports, so this class was also a valuable activity to participate in.

As someone who was never good at sports, never mathematically inclined, or a history junkie, I always found my home and safe space in the horticultural studies. I say studies because it wasn’t just the greenhouse that ignite my creativity and passion, it was the elements that we were being taught. The only thing that I remember from high school, was everything I learned in my horticulture class. Green thumbs are our future. Don’t give up on us now.

Please do not eliminate this program, it is so important for young people to understand where their food is coming from and how we can and do affect ourselves and the environment. This program not only encourages physical wellbeing but also mental health. but also
