Forensic nurses play a crucial role in providing specialized, trauma-informed care to an incredibly vulnerable population. Their presence is essential in both hospitals and local communities to ensure the best possible outcomes for patients affected by violence and trauma. Grant funding is vital to support the specialized training forensic nurses require, helping them stay current with best practices and continue delivering high-quality, compassionate care.
That anyone was experienced something as awful as rape shouldn’t have to have fear of seeing that person in public and deserves to be able to sleep at night knowing that those person actions were not acceptable and violation of a human right.
I still remember the morning my God brother called me to tell Shukeyina had been killed. I thought i was dreaming. I had to be the one to tell my sister and my nephew that their daughter and sister was no longer living. That's a feeling and I will never forget. It's going on 6 years and the person/persons responsible for this have yet to held accountable
You took a mother from 2 young children that has to grow up without their mother. Please help us get justice for Shukeyina her children her mother brother and the rest of our family
Dear Friends and Community,
I am writing to share the profound impact that the loss of my daughter, Shukeyina, has had on our family, especially on my son, Donald. Losing a loved one is never easy, but the pain of losing a sister has been particularly devastating for Donald.
Shukeyina was not just a sister to Donald; she was his confidant, his role model, and his best friend. They shared countless memories, laughter, and dreams. Her sudden departure has left a void in Donald's heart that words cannot fully express.
Donald has been struggling to cope with the immense grief and sorrow. The pain of losing Shukeyina has affected every aspect of his life. He finds it difficult to concentrate on his studies, and his once joyful demeanor has been replaced with a deep sense of sadness. The bond they shared was unique and irreplaceable, and her absence is felt every single day.
Shukeyina also left behind two beautiful children, Keon Jr. and Kylie, who miss their mother dearly. Their loss has added another layer of pain to our family, as we try to support them through this difficult time. As their grandmother, I cherished every moment I spent with them when Shukeyina was alive. Now, I rarely get to see them, and it feels as though they are being kept away from me. I fear that as the years go by, they will not remember the love and bond we shared.
As a mother, it breaks my heart to see my son in so much pain. I have tried to be there for him, to offer comfort and support, but I know that the journey of healing is a long and arduous one. Donald's grief is a testament to the love he had for his sister, and it is a reminder of how deeply connected they were.
I am reaching out to you, our friends and community, to ask for your support and understanding during this difficult time. Grief is a heavy burden to bear, and it is through the love and compassion of those around us that we find the strength to carry on. Please keep Donald, Keon Jr., and Kylie in your thoughts and prayers as they navigate this painful journey.
Thank you for your kindness and support.
Sincerely, Kimberly Godfrey
On April 26, 2019, my beloved daughter, Shukeyina Godfrey, was tragically murdered in the 5200 block of West Quincy Street, Chicago. Her truck had over 100 bullet holes, a senseless act of violence that has left our family devastated and searching for answers.
Shukeyina was not just a victim; she was a loving daughter, a devoted mother, a cherished granddaughter, a caring sister, and a beloved niece. As a daughter, she brought joy and pride to our family with her kindness and determination. As a mother, she was nurturing and dedicated, always putting her children first and ensuring they felt loved and supported. As a granddaughter, she shared a special bond with her grandparents, bringing them happiness and comfort. As a sister, she was a source of strength and companionship, always there to lend a helping hand or a listening ear. As a niece, she was adored by her aunts and uncles, who admired her resilience and spirit.
Despite numerous challenges and a lack of communication from the police department, I remain determined to find justice for Shukeyina. Throughout this process, I have faced constant changes in the detectives assigned to her case, which has hindered the progress of the investigation. As a grieving mother, I deserve to be kept informed about the progress of my daughter's case and to have a consistent point of contact within the police department.
I am calling on the Chicago Police Department to take immediate action to address these concerns and ensure that justice is served for Shukeyina. It is crucial that the department provides transparency and accountability in their investigations, not only for my family but for all families who have experienced similar tragedies.
Shukeyina was my beautiful niece whom was loved so deeply ❤️ This tragedy has been a nightmare that needs justice. My husband Antonio Godfrey received that phone call, using videos speaking to detective, they want the people who was so violent an took this daughter, niece, mother away from her family need to be brought to Justice an we need the police to do just that!!!
I and many others I know would greatly benefit from a resource like this. HI should be given the same space and compassion as SI, and no one deserves to feel ashamed or isolated for struggling with these experiences
As someone who deals with thought surrounding sexual violence, having this resource would be extremely helpful. I don't think that their are enough preventative measures, and struggle to find resources.
