I'm not an LDS member, but I fully support this movement. The scope of animal cruelty in modern factory farms is unimaginable; it's an ethical disaster, and despite this, almost nobody knows about or cares about it.
I have often referred to The Gentle Barn as the real "Happiest place on Earth" due to the love, care, and respect the animals receive after a lifetime of abuse. As a long-time supporter who has visited numerous times and occasionally donated, it's extremely concerning that the veterinarian care and finances may be compromised by the owners. These animals deserve the WORLD and are not a prop to build personal wealth off of. The board should respond swiftly to ensure the animals' needs are met and to restore trust in the donors. Thank you to all the volunteers who put animal welfare first <3
As a ling-time volunteer at the Missouri location, I was shocked of the closing in late October 24. Right after the animals were hauled to TN, the pig I was docent for (Penny) died for no known reason.
The founders never told me she passed away (i was her docent for over 7 yrs). They hid her death—never announcing it on social media either! They HIDE a lot of things. I am as certain as can be that there was A DIFFERENT reason they closed so rapidly. The location was doing very well, by the way.
I have made a handful of donations and items from the wish list for the MO location, sad to see that meant nothing. As well, the health of the animals seemed to deteriorate in the later stages of MO being open and once the animals were moved. The way that the long time volunteers were treated was also unacceptable. Do better.
