Wilber needs more lights and cameras in the back. I have had too many weird and scary things happen back there that I try not to leave back there at night. We as students live in USM residential dorm for safety and security away from home, and so far we only get a roof over our head and no real security. We need change.
I’ve been chased before behind Wilber while walking towards the building from the parking lot. There were incidents of strangers throwing rocks at the windows. It was reported, but nothing could be done due to the lack of cameras. Having lights and cameras installed would make residents feel so much safer at Wilber considering it is out in the open and close to the highway. There have been incidents of strangers loitering at Wilber due to the lack of lights and cameras as well. The RAs can only do so much before their own safety is put in danger trying to protect the building. That burden shouldn’t be placed on them completely. Obviously, it’s gonna take money and time, but hopefully, some serious consideration will happen before a decision is made. We’re not asking for a 24/7 guard or some expensive high-tech security system. Just something as simple as a camera and an extra or brighter light would relieve so many of the worries and concerns of safety. Residents deserve to feel safe in the buildings they pay to live in.
as a resident of wilber this has been an ongoing issue. my tires were slashed last year and they couldn’t do anything cause they have no cameras. our safety is important the university needs to treat it as such
