Public safety exists because of access to public information. Road accidents, weather conditions that affect highway conditions, and other unforeseen anomalies must be public access information. This keeps the public safe. It is through public accessible information that increases public safety, lawful compliance by citizens in emergenices, and ensures safety to first responders and state and county and federal employees also. Limiting and restricting public accessible information enables crimes, will increase death and crimes, and produces unsafe travel, unsafe public, and unsafe commuting areas. VA's economies thrive by the commuters that come through their state. The economical ramifications by this can be detrimental. For many do roads exist to bypass the major interstates of VA. VA maybe hoping to set a new precedent - but an economical loss of state and county revenue may not be one factor they used in their equation. People shop and travel where they feel safe. Limiting access to public information is a loud NO TRESPASSING statement that I don't think VA intended - but - it will be perceived by the public who frequents the area.
Cynthia supported: Stop the Encryption of Routine Communications by the Virginia State Police
Knowing what is going on in and around our communities is very important and has been useful for my family. We have avoided accidents, police chases and were able to take alternate routes because of Scannerfood. Being aware of what is happening helps keep families safe!
