Diego Miro-Rivera (DMR) is an intentional environmentalist dedicated towards bringing groups together — it is evident in his craft. As a friend and coworker of DMR, I have been lucky enough to often have a front row seat to his process and his completion. Since its inception, I have seen firsthand many groups come together at The Conversation Stones.
Third spaces to gather are so limited these days, such is why it is so important for the integrity and the lifespan of the Stones continues on for more generations. To enjoy, have a date, to discuss, eat lunch, meditate.
It would be a loss for the community to see the Stones go. I’m hopeful our voices will be heard in maintaining and bolstering the fragile nature of the Keep-it-Weird community of Austin and our togetherness, which is something we need more now than ever. HP
The conversation stones feel like they're been in the grass forever. They nestle seamlessly into the landscape, like they were made for the space. They are non-abrasive, beautiful and they add so much to the park! I truly do not understand why they would ever be removed. I've had countless conversations with people who are completely different from me, and who I would have never met if not for this piece of art. The Conversation Stones promote connection and dialogue in a time when we really need it. I feel like they represent some of the wonderful values of Austin itself. It would be devastating if they were removed. Save the stones!!!
The conversation stones mean so much to me. There is nothing more Austin than art + community. I’ve had countless picnics, lone sun bathing days, and have made friends through the stones. We need this instillation more than ever in such a divided world.
