Victories in Teacher Influence

While I hate to do this, I have to agree with this petition. I’m not in computer science A, but I do have him for Principles. As a senior with a 4.0 GPA and class salutatorian, I have never been in a class where the teacher has the audacity to 1. grade minimal assignments 2. make custom, poorly worded quizzes and tests 3. offer minimal, usually 0, assistance to struggling students 4. verbally harass and humiliate certain students 5. force students to complete over 150 assignments on an online course for zero credit 6. treat high school students from ALL grade levels like elementary students 7. indirectly state that he cares about his pay a lot more than the success of his students. I’m currently taking 6 AP classes and AP computer science Principles is my lowest grade at an 80. All of my other classes are A’s and I nearly lost my rank at the end of the first semester. Again, while I hate having to petition to fire people who are willing to teach the next generation with a low salary, I cannot stand by and watch fellow classmates possibly having their futures ruined because Mr. Stelly could care less about their grades. “Your grades will be fixed with an A when you pass the AP exam.” - John Stelly

These teachers have helped me and been there for me more than anyone can imagine. They are so helpful and amazing. They are apart of the Grant Family, and no one wants to see them go. They have become a safe place for many students, including myself.

I no longer live in this district. Three of my children graduated 8th grade there. Myself and my husband went to Grant through middle school. It is extremely disappointing to see that this school would do something like this. Change is so hard, especially half way through the year. Just looking through the comments of students who knew them, you can tell that they were loved dearly. Most students don't have anyone at home that listens. Most students find comfort with teachers, or in this case, paraprofessionals. I know you think you are helping by making the switch, but if you actually talked to the students about it, you would realize you are doing harm. I urge you to reconsider, coming from a mother and teacher.

Working in education is not easy, the pay, the draining days, sometimes even the adults you work with. So to have two professionals who are passionate about this work is an amazing thing. Being a paraprofessional is far from easy and these women deserve the basic respect of having their jobs safe. Do better before you lose all the good people you have left.

Both of the awesome teachers have helped me in school so much. We all will miss them very much and just want them back and never want to lose them. Ms. Siera helped me in math a lot and math just will never be the same without her.

I am not a member of tge school district. I am the mother of a child w autism. Transitions and change are so difficult for kids on the spectrum. It takes my son months to pair w new people. That means he is losing academic progress because he cannot concentrate on work until he pairs w his aide. Please reconsider your decision and do what is best for the students in your district.
