The demographic of those who loved and cherished the Shrek Franchise ranges from the 1990s to the early 2000s. The trailer, which has completely changed the animation style, is now being geared toward Gen Alpha. There's nothing wrong with wanting to reach that generation of audience, but changing the style completely when those who grew up with it adored it and thought it looked fantastic is ludicrous.
I am a huge fan of the Shrek movies. I have been watching them my entire life- I was born in 2001, the same year the first one was released. I still have the CD without the label on the package because I ripped it off when I was a baby lol. I can quote countless lines and even entire scenes word for word, tone for tone, not because I consciously memorized it but because I’ve watched them that many times and they’re that special to me. There is absolutely nothing wrong whatsoever with the animation style of the first 4 films- although I didn’t love how fluffy donkey’s fur was in Forever After.
When I saw the teaser for Shrek 5, I didn’t want to believe it. PLEASE just use the same models from the other movies. And I sincerely hope the Shrek memes they put in the teaser aren’t part of the movie, because that really ruins it. The silly memes are part of the culture outside of the franchise, for the fans in real life- they’re goofy, but not in a way that belongs in the films. It takes away from the enjoyment and magic of the Shrek world.
If the creators are trying to appeal to younger audiences with these decisions, please just stop. The people this movie matters to the most aren’t part of Gen Alpha, they’re part of Gen Z and even beyond. Even my parents were disturbed by the teaser. You can remain loyal to the truly iconic series we all know and love while still being attractive to the younger generation.
When I learned a Shrek 5 was confirmed, I was beyond excited, and planned to be there in the theaters on day one. If I learn that no changes are made, despite the thousands and thousands of people begging you to do so, I will absolutely refuse to see this movie.
Please remain true to what we all know and love. And keep the script funny like the others, and not corny or lame. Thank you
P.S., I love that Zendays is voicing Felicia, but please don’t forget about Fergus and Farkle
As an artist I understand the want to improve your visuals. However, this could've been done more mindfully while staying true to the original. The proportions, contrast, and detailing is off. Shrek is beloved by many and iconic throughout the world. Might as well take the feedback and put out something that will please people rather than being fast with a release. I care about this because I've seen more and more issues with continuations of characters and series' artistic renditions. There seems to be too much change happening when it comes to already established and loved subjects. Change is fine when done tastefully and with your fans in mind, but things keep getting pushed too far.
the fact that multiple movie remakes have not changed the original animation style(toy story being the most prominent in my mind) goes to show that this was not necessary. shrek is a childhood classic for millions of people, and it is extremely disappointing to see that my childhood favorites do not look the same anymore. stop trying to be "up to date" with trends; fix the animation style and go back to the original style everyone loves.
As one of the original viewers to the franchise, now mom to a new generation of fans, our entire family is shocked and disgusted at the animation. Not one character looks like we have seen, loved, for years. Great you have all the characters' original actors, but we'll be boycotting this and subsequent movies if the animation stays the same. The franchise will stop at Shrek Ever After in this home. These movies have been celebrated for generations. Give us what your true, loyal fans want. We want the original animation and with the characters their original way.
As a kid born in 2003, Shrek was one of the first movies that I was able to actually remember, alongside the polar express, and white fang. These are my childhood nostalgia, and I find it... frankly offensive that although "times are changing" you feel the need (DreamWorks) to change an animation style that has worked perfectly for four movies. Please harken back to weaving dreams, and not profits. This I implore.
