I'm an MSU student. I do not live on campus. MSU has displayed poor communication skills on keeping students informed for decades. They still have the backwards attitude that they should keep students in the dark. MSU needs to get with the 21st century. I stand with the other student who have been displace, lost study time, lost money, parent had to fork out more money to put child up in hotel, etc. MSU you need to be held accountable since you can't seem to hold yourselves accountable.

Additionally, MSU decided to continue with hosting a basketball game while all of this was happening. The CFSB center should have been used for a place for students to go to have access to electricity, hot water, restrooms, and charging stations. They should have cancelled the game and used this as a place for students for the entire weekend. This is not the experience that I was expecting when coming to MSU. Multiple times I have been without hot water and electricity. Emails are not sent out until several hours after these events have happened. It is not difficult to send out a mass email to students. Do better MSU.

Since the power went out Saturday morning and nothing was solved by Saturday evening why was there no accommodations made then? Students went through severe weather, some with no direction on what to do, with no power, heat, and some without water. You would think one of the “best voted” universities would have efficient housing accommodations. Also the lack of communication is awful. Being told it would be back on “soon” Saturday at noon to Sunday at 5pm finally being offered somewhere to go is not right. THE LACK OF COMMUNICATION WITH THIS ISSUE TO STUDENTS IS NOT RIGHT!

This is the third time this year that the power has gone out in regents/white for multiple days in dangerous weather conditions. MSU needs to be held accountable for their negligence that will eventually cost lives.

In the beginning, I tried to give the university the benefit of the doubt. They couldn’t exactly predict the lightning strike, after all. But through this whole ordeal, Murray State has shown time and time again their lack of communication skills, and their disregard for their students. They gave hardly any warning with temporary housing accommodations, and they made many mistakes with it. They put girls in male rooms, put people in rooms already holding 2 residents, and put people in places previously deemed not up to living standards. On top of that, residents were only given 1 day off classes to move, and expect us to return to our studies on Tuesday. This is completely unacceptable, as many people are still trying to figure things during these tumultuous times. Murray State needs to do better, for their students and their community.

After getting paid, I was finally able to stock my refrigerator with groceries and stop eating only canned food from Dollar Tree. The power went out the following day, and I did not get the chance to eat any of these groceries. I cannot afford to replace them on my own. Murray State University refuses to reimburse or replace these losses. This side of campus has been neglected for far too long, simply because those who live there pay the least to do so. Each and every time the power goes out (which is often), power is restored in other areas of campus long before our side. Shame on Murray State.

Murray State was one of my top choices, but I didn’t choose it for a number of factors. The need for this position shows a lot about how this university treats its students and faculty, when student safety and health (both mental and physical) should be the priority. No student deserves to wonder if they’ll have a warm bed for the night, or worry about someone ransacking their dorm. These students deserve communication and accommodations, just like students receive at any other university.

I have been forced from my residence hall for no reason? They have generators they COULD BE USING for situations like these, but instead are forcing students into unreasonable conditions with little to no warning. How am I meant to reach my 8AM classes from an off campus location? Why am I being forced into a room with some stranger, with little to no coordination OR details? And they expect us to continue classes in these conditions? I'm literally just going to go home, I can't complete anything in regards to my academics like this.

As a parent and grandparent with a grandchild attending in the fall this is concerning. We understand things happen but not putting the safety of students 1st is despicable. I know 2 trucking companies that can bring in rental commercial generators and set them up that could have each dorm back livable in 12hrs time. Why was this not an option. Why was a basketball game prioritize over students wellbeing.
