I believe this program should continue onward. I have know n several children who have attended this program through the years and it proves to be extremely beneficial. I also have entrusted high school students who learned and cared for the children within this program; to sit my three children throughout the past 7 years, outside of the program. They have a great passion for caring for children and are going onward in college and their professional careers to care for children at a medical level as well as a teaching level. I hope that this is considered in maintaining this program of choice for future students and children who benefit immensely from the experience gained from this program.
This program is one of the most valuable asset of our education system. 3 of my grandchildren learned so much and we're completely prepared for Kindergarten. Director and student teachers are the best. We can't afford to lose this program.
I have observed amazing learning take place by high school students working with the preschool children. Many of the high school students go on to become teachers in the community as well as choose other careers that work with children. The preschool children have so much fun learning from the student teachers who create incredible lessons. Student teachers earn college credit for their work! This is the third time this program has faced this potential cut! It’s unfair to do to students who work hard at the prerequisites to become student teachers in this program as well as families planning on their children attending. Please keep this valuable program!
The Laboratory Preschool at WHS shaped my love for working 1:1 with children and helped me decide my career to become a child mental health therapist. While I may not have gone into education like many of my amazing peers, it was through this program that I was able to find my love for the deep connections that form within the therapy relationship, especially with children. This program gave me confidence and hope. I can’t imagine it being even an option to be cut from the budget. This program is invaluable and we, as a district, are going to lose the opportunity to shape so many amazing individuals into the teachers our children and our children’s children need in the future. Cutting this program is a huge disservice to our community.
The Westfield High School Laboratory Preschool was truly an unforgettable experience that set me on my journey to becoming an educator. It has been ten years since I graduated from WHS, and I continue to speak highly of this remarkable program. Now, as I embark on my fourth year of teaching, I find myself consistently drawing upon the skills and core content I gained during my time there. Eliminating this program would be a disservice to future educators and the Westfield community. It deserves to be preserved and celebrated!
Both of my daughters attended Children’s Corner Preschool, and it was truly the foundation for their success in school. The program not only supported their social and emotional growth, but also gave them the essential building blocks to begin their learning journey with confidence. What makes this preschool even more special is how it simultaneously trains high school students to become compassionate, skilled educators. It’s a wonderful program that benefits everyone involved.
My girls have continued to thrive academically—always earning excellent grades and excelling in school. My oldest has since graduated, and she still fondly remembers her time at Children’s Corner.
This program is terrific for both high school students and preschool students. I spent two years in the program and it was the highlight of each day in high school. For myself and many peers, it taught us key skills such as communication and leadership. Due to this program, we could develop lesson plans and prepare and teach lessons to students while we were students ourselves. This program creates passion and dedication in so many high school students, which is instrumental during this time when passion is rare in school settings. I am now on track to be an English teacher at the secondary level, but so much of what I know and apply in the classroom is due to what I learned in this program. It would be an incredible disservice to Westfield High School and its student body if this program were to be cut.
2 years of Child Development, and 2 years student teaching in the Laboratory Preschool. Those 4 years jump started my passion for working with children and teaching. I am now close to entering my 13th year in the Early Education Field, and have worked my way to become Director Certified. I have this wonderful program and the framework that it built to thank for getting to this point in my career.
Cutting the Children's Corner Laboratory Preschool program would not only be a disservice to the Students enrolled in Westfield High School, but also to the families of Westfield, who are in need of Preschool and childcare providers.
This program has been amazing for my daughter. She has learned she has a love for teaching and shaping little minds. It would be a huge loss for high school students to lose this program.
