I listened to Diddy while my mom was in the hospital. He gave me hope during a hard time. He shouldn't be in jail.

Art has always been that step that you take when you want a place to gather your bearings after a hard day whether it’s making art or viewing art. In my opinion, having a place where students can take a little break and view students art is a small but significant a refresher to anyones day. Viewing student art is also a great way for other students to become inspired and create their own form of art and register for art classes of any type SWC has to offer. I am in the Metal class, 3 semester, i have learned so much from my teachers Lisa, Michelle and Aleya. Please give the students this building or at least a new bigger one in its place WITH a place to congregate with tables and chairs maybe a snack store as well. Thank you for considering, -Wendy

Bob Matheny and his legacy--the gallery, teaching and as practicing artist--is a reminder of the stimulating days when San Diego had a developing influence on art world-wide. By the 70s I was in a small corner with the design of a national magazine, but John Baldessari had been a classmate at SDSC, Barney Reid had been my boss at Navy Electronics Laboratory when Russel Baldwin and others with connections to the art community worked there. One influential voice for us all was Bob Matheny, and I was grateful for his friendship and insight when my later long-distance correspondence and sadlylimited visits allowed us to get together.

This gallery is unique, beautiful, and irreplaceable. Don’t fall into the trap of wanting a slick new space. I lived as an artist in San Diego from 2013-2020 and saw so many good shows here - and this gallery was the reason to trek down from central SD.

Such a beautiful piece of maritime history and legendary a Liner should not have its final fate resting on the seabed. Especially one not bearing the namesake of this great, free nation. She should be restored to former glory and turned into a great museum at the very least. SOS!

The SS United States is a national historic landmark and deserves to have a place as a museum or attraction and restored to its former glory, not an artificial reef. We need to take action now and do everything we can to save the ship and bring her back to where she belongs, with the American people.

As a member of the armed forces, and supporter of our constitution, this landmark and historical piece of history should not be preserved on the sea floor but where the American people (and many other nations) can visit her and learn about her history. It will also preserve one of the last remaining ocean liners, and keep alive the era that it came from just as many other ships do to this day (USS Texas, Queen Mary, USS Constitution…)

The SS United States represents the best of this country's engineering, craftsmanship, and sense of adventure at its time. In a time where traditional values, forward-thinking, and global sustainability are topics at the top of everyone's minds, scrapping the SS United States is an affront to all those mindsets. Instead, we should embrace the sense of adventure during this ship's conception and development. Let us use the advancements we pride ourselves on creating and use them to preserve not only a historical monument but also a shining accomplishment in our nation's history. Let us re-envision this majestic vessel that carried hopeful passengers across the sea into an innovative vessel that can inspire its future occupants to imagine new ideas and amazing constructs, much like William Gibbs was inspired when he designed the SS United States. And let us rebuild the SS United States to show future generations how, even in its darkest days, the spirit and resolve of citizens who believe in an ideal will always prevail and find their faith rewarded. And finally, to paraphrase a quote from modern literature, let history never forget the SS United States. Thank you.
