Please investigate any ties the developer has to Oakley city council members. Any members with ties to the developer need to be removed from the decision making process.
I have lived and raised my children in this quiet, family oriented neighborhood filled with supportive members for 58 years. The addition of a 73 three-story high condos onto a 3½ acre plot of land with only a one lane, one way "street" through the complex which has only one entrance and one near by exit onto our neighborhood surface streets will cause negative changes and problems. The zoning change proposed from R-1 to R-3 is incompatible with our single family area which the condo owners would exit into with 79 single family homes already placed on the 3½ blocks of only heading north surface streets. The only other option to exit is east one block down steep Jericho Road to Amaya Drive, which is a one lane each direction street past our neighborhood. Amaya is NOT a "major artery" through our area. The 2-lane surface streets through our area combined with the one lane "street" through the condo complex will have the problems of Police, Ambulance, or Fire Vehicles driving into and out of the area and the additional concern of doubling the number of residents in our area having to evacuate our neighborhood in the event of an emergency. This could be castrophic for our neighborhood and makes this area inappropriate for the proposed building project. Perhaps the plan would work well in a less congested area exiting on to a large traffic artery or the project on Jericho could be redeveloped into a much less dense community or single family homes like the rest of the neighborhood. Thank you for your consideration.
My name is Kenny Niedermeyer and I live in the vicinity of the planned Jericho Road residential Project. Our neighborhood and the infrastructure herein is already pushed to the limit by near by schools and churches. This construction does nothing to combat the extra traffic that will congest the area. Please, cancel this development.
This development doesn't fit my neighborhood. The addition of 73 three story unites will cause a lot of traffic and impact the safety of my kids riding their bikes to school at Northmont.
Strong opinions on our increased traffic congestion already, let alone our sewer system but that area FLOODS!!!! Why would they build on a flood zone? Are developers that desperate for land?? There is vacant undeveloped land across from the 7-Eleven on Oakland Park Blvd that has been an unsightly blank of nothing in our community for years.
Why they shouldn't rezone the golf course...
What about the environmental impact? We already have an abundance of trash floating in our lakes THAT NO ONE CLEANS UP!!! Other than me in my little kayak. We FISH here and yet our city wants to add more people to this already crowded area?
Severe impact to our local wildlife. Yes - we have coyotes, opossums, raccoons, ducks, geese, and numerous other birds which live on and feed from the golf course. Where will they go to eat if this area is developed so poorly by 880 units? They will come into OUR community or be permanently removed.
No more morning fog in spring and fall over the golf course.
No more natural reserve giving our community the pleasure of wildlife, peace and tranquility in our small section of an ever growing Fort Lauderdale.
It should be a natural reserve! It should be a park for running, walking - enjoyment to all in our community.
Not more people.
Not more LIGHT pollution.
Not more power drain/outages.
Not More crime!!!! - bringing it closer to our doorstep.
I support this petition and Say a very firm, and loud - NO! Do not destroy the last piece of paradise in our community.
I've been a long time Harford County resident and in that time I've seen a lot of changes. Some good and some bad. This land owner seems super arrogant and obviously doesn't give any care or consideration for the people who are tired of the excess buildup. Things are already overcrowded enough as is with schools, traffic on the roads and strains on our infrastructure networks. I'm appalled that someone would be this inconsiderate and flat out arrogantly disregard community concerns just to make a quick payout. The developers need to be held accountable as well for the reckless and unnecessary buildup that's taken place. Has to stop. Enough is enough. Farms are important. Without them, we don't eat, and also more natural landscapes are destroyed for profit for greed.. and there's no economical incentive to plowing under and building a ton of poorly constructed junk new houses. Not to mention the crime rate potential to rise. It's blatantly obvious this land owner who wants the zoning change could care less about anyone but their own selfish self. This garbage has to stop.
Our county has grown over the years with new houses built and putting our enrollment at all schools to capacity and overcrowding. Our roads are always congested and allowing our farmlands to be rezoned for more houses or condos or anything else would be a big disaster for our communities. We need to protect and keep our rural country setting by keeping our farmlands.
Enough construction and building! Why not turn this into another park? We moved to the area hoping for a less busy area to raise our kids and have been sorely disappointed.
The land of Emeralda is dry right now but it’s not always this way. I grew up on Emeralda, my mother drove the school bus. I’ve seen times when the water was so high the bus was the only vehicle that could get through. Leave our wetlands alone. We need places that remind us of the Florida that once was. Not the overgrown mess it is now.
