I am 67 and I count on my SSA benefits every month. I am still working, but a decrease in SSA benefits would prevent me from being able to pay all my bills. I don't want to lose my house or become homeless. Please raise and protect SSA benefits for us in lowest income brackets. I would like to be able to actually retire one day. Thank you.
There are so many of us who need Social Security to survive.
Most people don't have the time or ability to wait indefinitely for a person to pick up a phone.
Please staff your offices.
This will save lives.
Congress wants to save money, but don’t do so on the backs of the seniors and disabled who are already suffering financially. SSA wants to have everyone do online appointment and interviews. Many of us seniors and disabled don’t have knowledge and resources to do online scheduling and interviews. Not providing in-person help to seniors when needed (who without question contributed to the social security) equates to refusing financial help that is very much needed. This help is not a charity, or hand out. Please fund SSA so local offices are open and available to provide help.
I support SSI and had been a contributor for 20 plus years before I became disabled. Now that I'm receiving it and need it because it is my only source of income. I'm at the poverty level income and will be literally on the streets if SSI is abolished.
When wanting to start SS benefits, I was required to wait eight weeks for an appointment with my local office. I was offered an initial phone question and answer session which was helpful, but was not officially started on benefits until the office appointment. Yes, it would be helpful to employ more office staff for timely appointments.
My only income is from Social Security. I qualify for Medicaid and SNAP which means I make less than $1,000 a month. Anymore cuts and I'll be camping out on Trump front lawn.
Hello. My name is Renee Williams. I am a divorced retired Travel Nurse who happens to be on SSD due to the wear and tear on my body and exposure to disease, such as Guillian-Syndrome (from an allergic reaction to a flu shot) and exposure Covid in my work settings. Travel nurses do not receive retirement benefits due to the slightly higher salary. But I couldn’t take a regular paying job with benefits because I had 3 sons to raise by myself & needed the immediate funds. I depend on SSD for my entire livelihood. I am a renter who happens to live in the Dallas area, a red state. It is extremely expensive to live here. I live in an apartment complex that happens to be operated by an organization who is presently under investigation by the federal government for using an algorithm (RealPage) which may be responsible for Rent Gouging. So, when I get a small raise on my SSD check, my food stamps are decreased for that same amount, not to mention my landlord sees this and goes up on the rent also. I am now put into a higher Medicaid income bracket for free assistance by a few dollars so I actually lose my coverage which helps pay for my medicine. Which means more out of pocket cost. So unless the raise is significant, it hurts me if I get a raise on my SSD. And because I’m not 65 yet, I am therefore not eligible for senior discounts on anything offered on the government assistance sights. So as you can see, The system is rigged to keep folks in destitute. The money given by the government for housing in our area is most often used to build more parks instead of housing. There are approximately 42 parks in my general vicinity. Can someone please tell me why a disable lady with a cane needs all those parks. I would go into where the money is actually going & not into housing for the poor here in Dallas, but for now, I’ll just play it safe for now. I’ll just leave that to the experts.
P.S. I am not holding my breath on there actually being any movement as far as the rent gouging. But I am continuing to pray that the next administration not interfere with my livelihood.
If you all had to live on $2,318 a month, could you do it?($27,816 yearly)
Even living in Senior housing is a struggle. My rent went up $45 this year. $565...add the electric bill and that's a huge chunk out of my monthly income.
Forget going on trips with groups, friends or family! Gas is another factor in going anywhere!
We have electric heat. Without energy assistance (which applying for is another whole headache with all the documentation and paperwork necessary) heating bills in the winter can be close to $400 a month,December,January, February, March and sometimes April. That's with keeping the thermostat at 60° and turned down more on "warmer" days.
Would you live like this? I think you should, for a year, or even half a year. Might give you in government "service"(and I use the term service loosely)some perspective.
After working a lifetime (50+ years) and paying into the SS system, we have planned our future to include our earned benefits. We must do whatever it takes to keep SS alive and healthy. Raise the cap, it is a simple fix.
