This should be common sense by now. We can’t keep reacting to crises after they happen - we need to equip kids with the tools to handle life before things go wrong. Teaching life skills isn’t about replacing academic subjects; it’s about making sure young people are mentally, emotionally, and socially prepared for the world they’re stepping into. Too many children are falling through the cracks because schools aren’t given the time, training, or resources to support them properly. It’s not fair on teachers, and it’s definitely not fair on students. I stand with Lessons4Life - it’s time for the government to step up.

Absolutely agree, it’s shocking that we’re still debating something so fundamental. Life skills aren’t a luxury; they’re essential. In a world where children are facing pressures we couldn’t have imagined growing up - from online dangers to mental health struggles - schools must be equipped to step in and support them. Families do their best, but they can’t do it alone. This is about prevention, protection, and preparation. It’s time the government stopped treating this as optional and started treating it as urgent. I’ve signed - and I hope many more will too. Let’s stop talking about change and make it happen.
We wouldn’t dream of sending kids out into a thunderstorm without a coat - so why do we keep sending them into the storm of real life without the tools to protect themselves?
Life skills aren’t ‘nice-to-have’ - they’re the difference between kids surviving or thriving. Between crisis and confidence.
If we don’t do this NOW, we’re signing off on preventable pain, preventable harm, preventable costs.
I’m proud to stand with Lessons4Life. I’ve signed - and so should everyone who cares about the next generation.
It’s hard to believe this is still up for debate. We all want children to succeed, but how can we expect that if we’re not teaching them the skills they actually need to navigate real life? This isn’t about politics - it’s about giving every child a fair chance, no matter their background. Life skills like managing emotions, recognising danger, and making good choices should be part of every child’s education. Schools want to help - but they need the proper support to do it well. This petition is about common sense, and I fully support it.
It is astonishing that in 2025 we are still having to fight for something as basic as proper life skills in schools. Children deserve better. Families deserve better. Teachers deserve better.
We cannot keep burying our heads in the sand while young people navigate dangers we never dreamed of facing at their age. It is not good enough to expect parents alone to tackle online predators, anxiety, bullying, exploitation and the toxic culture bombarding our children every day.
Schools are trying their best but they need proper funding, training and time to teach these lessons well. We all pay the price when we fail to equip young people with the skills to cope with life.
Sign the petition. Share it. Speak up. We need the Government to wake up and put our children first.
