I would love to see this in my lifetime. The ability to take transit to downtown and back instead of having to sit in traffic for hours, or worry about overpriced parking. Charlotte could finally become more connected and could bring more business! Then we can have less cars on the roads and maybe do something about all the ugly stroads around here.

As a Charlotte native, and current East Charlotte resident, I would very much like to see an alternative transportation methods be brought to East Charlotte. With the rate of growth that our city is seeing, reducing car trips and providing multiple methods of transportation should be a key priority in accommodating the growth that will come over the coming decades.

I live in East Charlotte and work only a couple miles away. Walking and cycling are both too dangerous on my route to work. I'm a car on the road today that you could eliminate with mass transit or more pedestrian/cyclist safety. I would barely drive at all during the year if we had proper rail.

I commuted to Uptown by bus from Matthews for years but stopped riding within the last year because it is too unreliable and no routes are available after 6pm. Now I drive all the way to the South Blvd station to take the light rail. Although not convenient, it’s better than standing in the cold for 30 minutes wondering if the bus will show up. Matthews desperately needs light rail.

Last year I moved back to Charlotte and now live right along the future Red Line. I am elated by the city's decision to purchase the O Line tracks for the Red Line from NS and the idea that I could in the future commute to uptown and the lake via commuter rail without risking my life on I-77. However, I am also fully in support of building out the entire Silver Line as one continuous light rail route, which in my view is absolutely pivotal towards building a true rail system. A Charlotte Gateway Station that lacks the Silver Line would risk reducing the Red Line to little more than a work commute and a way to avoid traffic and parking costs for events at Bank of America Stadium or Belk Theater. With the Silver Line, it becomes a way to get across much of the city, building out alternatives to road traffic East and West, and connecting to the Blue Line to head South or Northeast... and it makes it possible for communities along the Silver Line to do the same. Building the full Silver Line now instead of decades down the line will save billions of dollars, limit the number of drivers on the road (improving traffic and air quality while decreasing CO2 emissions and traffic fatalities), and give workers and neighbors options to live and enjoy their city fully. To me, this is a no-brainer and whether we need to increase the sales tax threshold we're asking for from the NCGA from 40% to something higher, or voting on bonds, or amending what the Tourism & Hospitality tax funds can be used for, I want to see us moving toward full Red and Silver lines with absolute haste.

I live in Charlotte and commute via light rail almost daily. The silver line between Uptown and Matthews is the most important part of the transit expansion plan and it is ridiculous that the city is considering scrapping it

For years I've dropped off my grandma in matthews to take a bus to downtown Charlotte, a light rail would be a quicker and safer route to the city and back, not to mention connectivity with the 485-UNCC rail for more accessible transit.

Expanding public transportation can remove one of the largest barriers individuals with disabilities have in our community. The expansion of the light rail system can promote increased rates of employment and community participation for all Charlotte area residents.

I currently attend UNCC, and I frequently make the trip from campus to my home in Matthews. Building the Silver Line would be a massive convenience to me as well as my family. Also, the economic benefits for Matthews and East Charlotte would be massive. I believe there is not a single scenario where this plan is not a net positive for our communities.
