I’m a 24 year old female. I have autism and ADHD. I cannot physically drive right now. So I rely on public transportation like via to get around. But via isn’t the best option. I need real public transportation. I can’t afford to get Ubers to get work, the library, my doctors office, etc.
Not a walkable city. Especially for college students. What about students with low income base backgrounds? They’re seeking higher education and also having to find time and a way to work near campus while saving enough money to purchase a vehicle in a location that pays the minimum wage of $7 an hour!
I am a faculty member teaching at UT Arlington. Most of the students have to drive to attend classes. The parking is busy, they usually have to spend a lot of time walking from the furthest parking lot from the classroom or finding a place, and unfortunately skip the class at the end. The unapproachable sources demotivate and discourage students from studying. The Via has been criticized for its often delays and unavailability, despite many complaints. It is definitely not going to help in the 2026 World Cup. If the city is reasonable enough to care about the quality of teaching and learning at the only R1 higher education institution, just get a public transportation.
