The Prison Industrial Complex is a critical topic that sheds light on the interconnected network of corporations, governments, and institutions that profit from mass incarceration. This complex issue highlights the impact of policies and practices that perpetuate the cycle of incarceration, disproportionately affecting marginalized communities. Recent petitions have called for reforms such as ending cash bail, eliminating private prisons, and investing in alternatives to incarceration. One petition with thousands of signatures urges for the abolition of private prisons, citing the profit-driven motives that prioritize the incarceration of individuals over rehabilitation. Another petition focuses on the need to address racial disparities in the criminal justice system, emphasizing the systemic racism that leads to disproportionate imprisonment of Black and brown individuals. By exploring and supporting these petitions, you can play a role in dismantling the Prison Industrial Complex and advocating for a more just and equitable society.
Even the healthiest prisons can be torturous to inmates, but the conditions these inmates are forced to endure is horrendous. It’s so sad that multiple men would rather burn themselves alive. It doesn’t have to be this bad.
Too many of us consider the *horrors* we hear about prisons as a part of the punishment for crimes. As if the *sentencing* people are assigned by our justice system is meaningless. As if these unspecified and infinite tortures are required for real punishment.
Punishment beyond sentencing makes a mockery of our whole system.
And we all know it's happening.
We just figure it's wrapped into how the justice system works.
We're walking around believing that off-the-books-violence and torture are *normal* and *right.*
It's not right.
And it shouldn't be normal.
It shouldn't EVER happen, let alone be so normalized only a couple people I know will do more than shrug about this.
This has to change.
These are real people.
This is beyond unacceptable.
Because I was in prison b4. And I've seen alot n how staff treats imates. Once your in there hands. They love the control and the abuse. Mentally and physically. Please help these people. Just because there inside those gates and have to wear chains n shackles. There still humans. And staff should not get away with abusing anyone.
