I spent my entire life pledging allegiance to the flag and respecting the constitution. Do you realize what kind of message it sends to invite a man that is actively ignoring the constitution and disrespecting the checks and balances of our government? I did not work my ass off for 4 years to listen to a rapist ramble on about conspiracy theories that have no backing. Even the Trump flags in Tuscaloosa are coming down. Do you not realize how important it is that you take a stand against him? I have never been so embarrassed by this University.
As a two time alum from the University of Alabama, I’m ashamed to represent this school after this decision. The decision to disrespect the many marginalized students who have worked so hard for graduation day is sickening. Platforming someone who is actively advocating against the rights of students on graduation day is abhorrent.
As someone who went through a Covid high school graduation, I’ve worked entirely too hard to have my college graduation tainted by the presence of a bigot who is actively trying to defund education. He represents NOTHING the tide, its students, alumna, and faculty have worked very hard to cultivate. This university has made great strides in inclusivity and now is not the time to backtrack and take the easy way out. Stand against his bigotry and prove to the students that you value us here and not just the money we put into the institution.
