I watched my daughter fight to get benefits for her children after her husband passed away less than a year ago and he didn't die in a natural disaster. The long wait after death to file, the extra paperwork, the grief going on while trying to jump through all the hoops they want you too, is absolutely absurd! Then you wait for them to make a decision and wait some more for benefits to bury them. Our system is so flawed this law is really needed. I back it fully.
I have followed this story since hurricane Helene hit and the loved ones messaged that Alena had not been found. Loss is hard and add to natural disaster as hurricane Helene and it’s effects. Please review and consider Alena’s law to help free up laws that will help her bereaved family get the financial support and closure needed. B
Alena was my cousin and I think that it’s wrong to make families wait 7 years before declaring someone dead especially after a natural disaster because families can’t move forward and begin the process of so many things
Let me get this straight, the husband has told both Angela’s daughter, her family back East, and the police; two entirely different stories, about her going missing? First it was, that she had been packed off, to Ossowattomie(one of the mental hospitals, in the state of Kansas), and subsequently died from a stroke, while committed as a patient-but there’s no death certificate, to back that claim up? Second, that Angela supposedly ran off, with some unknown acquintance, and is off living the high life; somewhere-but all of possessions, including her identification; were found at the house, in Lee’s Summit? That she hasn’t been in contact, with any of her family? Including her daughter? But that Angela, prior to this, was entirely dependent, upon her husband’s income? Had no bank accounts, or credit cards, in her name? That Angela wasn’t allowed, to go outside the home?Unless her husband and/or daughter, were there; to supervise her in public? But that Angela, had somehow meet someone, magically obtained the money, to live on; and poof! She’s missing!
Wrong! Angela Green, was a Woman, trapped in an abusive marriage, with no means of escape; and no one she could turn for help. This poor Woman, died at her husband’s hands. Because either the Bastard, found out; that she was leaving, or something happened, that caused the damn man’s violence to escalate ; to a point where Angela died.
Both the Lee’s Summit police department, and the Johnson County Sheriff’s department. Should be collectively ashamed of themselves, for failing to protect Angela Green, when she was still alive; and for their sick joke of an investigation! The Lee’s Summit/Johnson county, Kansas area. Is one of the wealthiest counties in Kansas. But apparently, their attitude towards Domestic Violence; is still stuck in the 1950s. Which is how and why, the PoS she was married to; isn’t sleeping on a concrete slab, in either the Hutchinson or Lansing State penitentiaries. Just because they’ve haven’t found her remains, doesn’t mean that she’s still alive. Far from it.
People came together and wanting answers. Our hearts are breaking for Tammie and her family. A grown man does not just disappear. It's time for a change to get answers and bring Jared McColloch home to his family.
