Somebody in my own family was tortured here and succumbed to her death outside of the facility. The generational scars have lasted throughout the decades and my heart was shattered when I found out what they did to this place. There are still buried innocents below the surface. Please let their souls rest.

When the unthinkable happened we were shocked, as a nurse I realize psychological and emotional problems can be difficult to fully understand, what I can't understand is how a young man can be condemned to prison when it is obvious he had emotional problems. As well he committed this when only 16 how then is he being treated as an adult. Please consider this young man's emotional and psychological state in weighing your final decisions.

Mental health is so often stigmatized, but in reality it is just can important as physical health. If the goal of the criminal justice system is really rehabilitation and not just punishment then in this situation the mental health of the defendant but be taken into account and he must get the help he needs. Those with mental disorders suffer greatly in prisons.

I think that the way GEI patients are sentenced goes above and beyond what is necessary to ensure societal safety. I have no intention of contacting my victim again and think that the sentencing for my actions was too harsh. I believe I should have been punished, but 20 years is too l long. I don't believe I will need supervision for 20 years to accept what I did and take responsibility for it. I would have spent less than a month in jail following my conviction if I had plead guilty to my crime and don't see why serving a concurrent sentence would not suffice for my punishment. The disparity is obvious.

Such a sad story and stories here.He tried eating up all his medication for schizophrenia and used the family's butcher knife passed down to our generation but now list in the forest of ID. But he is found Thank God and saved by his mother and father and Bonner County police.God Bless anyone that had to go thru this actual loss.And for you with a gun purchased by yoyr daughter.I am so for this petition.By laws of Amazing Grace of God that it passes in the name of your daughters spirit.Amen

We have several gaps in mental health services and I believe every person has the right to get the help they deserve. My heart will never be the same again from this loss, and if I can do something to prevent another family from going through this devastation from losing a loved one to suicide, then my work is worthwhile. I will never give up or stop fighting for others. Suicide is a serious public health problem which can have lifelong effects. We can't bring our Nikki and Hailey back and others we've lost to suicide but everyone can continue this important work to save lives and offer hope.

I failed as a Mom, not to know warning signs of someone suicidal. I was the last person to see my son and an hour after I left him, he hung himself with a dog leash. I will keep you in my prayers. I read how you lost your daughter, just wanted to let you know that you’re not alone. After my son passed, there were 3 others here in Yankton that took their lives. We are losing TOO MANY young people to mental illness.
