I honestly really liked my wallpaper, and seeing this petition reminded me of lexia and how schools are slowly trying to strip away any ounce of joy or personality kids have. I mean seriously, they took away our wallpapers? What kind of dystopian nightmare is this? What's next? They take away the colors of the world because it's too "distracting"?
The freedom to change your background on LCPS students' Chromebooks were ways students can express their creativity and interests. As an LCPS student myself, I don't understand why they removed the background. It did no harm. In fact, I think it was beneficial to give us freedom to change our backgrounds. Most students had made those backgrounds things they like, achievements, their own drawings, etc. Teachers always tell us not to break their Chromebooks, but the blue looks like water and water breaks Chromebooks. as much as this screen breaks us students on the inside. Our creativity should be allowed to be expressed. We will become depressed in the future if this goes on. In the declaration, it includes these words: "Freedom to pursue happiness."
What is the harm in bringing our computer backgrounds back? It was not an issue to get rid of it, so it should not be an issue to bring them back. Us students should not be punished for other students actions and choice of their computer wallpaper.
My computer wallpaper did should be restored because I did not violate any rules, and it is unfair to punish me for another student's mistake. My background was a simple field of wildflowers in the spring. It reminded me of happiness during a long 7-hour school day. Holding someone accountable for someone's else's actions is unjust, and I should not lose my personal customization over something I had no involvement in. Please return My wallpaper and the rest of the students wallpaper, as a majority of us have done nothing wrong.
I was told in this school that my first amendment right in the constitution is the freedom of speech. It is allowed if not hurtful towards others. Would you consider wallpapers hurtful towards others? Because you could make the argument that some were school appropriate, but not all of them! Also what would you expect from hundreds of 13 and 14 year olds thrown into a jail like building. This seems like your taking away our right that you said we had! Our wallpapers gave us and our devices personalities! We aren't just doing this for us, but the next people in line, heading into the frontlines known as LCPS dictatorship. This is where us students draw the line. Instead of making advisory teachers show boring slideshows about groups of people and culture, let us express it ourselves! You guys could go so far just letting us express our creativity, culture, talent, personality, interests, passions, future, ANYTHING! Without freedom of speech, it makes school feel like a soulless jail full of kids. Many of my peers would agree with the statements I'm typing at 22:41, which is something I don't say alot, but it's true. Everyone wants wallpapers. I can't speak for everyone, but I'm not stopping this until we get them back. I'm finally putting my foot down against the dictators known as LCPS. I'm not going down without a fight, and I know others won't either. We did this before when you guys took away our backpacks. We won't let this slide. If your a student reading this, join me in the final stand against this nonsense and restrictions of our basic god given rights! Stand up for yourself! Send this petition to our fellow students and have your voice be heard! I will try my best but I need your help too! We will be going down with the ship. The ship of having a soul. The ship of having a personality. A ship of making sure LCPS changes for the better. Us kids get shut down by adults when trying to get stuff done. This is the end of that. We will win and get our wallpapers back. This ins't about the wallpapers anymore (kinda) this is also about the message that we have to get across. Best luck to you my fellow students. May the odds be in our favour.
to be completely honest, wallpapers brought just a little bit of joy to my day. now that that's gone, I feel like it's not even worth it to look forward to a school day. it's like they all want us to just be robots, no individuality. what are they going to take next? our new tab screens? or our profile pictures?
