Esperanza was incredibly lucky to have had a wonderful music teacher up until the 2024 school year — one who built both a strong in-school music curriculum and provided enriching "extra" opportunities for scholars; including a mallet band, ukulele band, & a 3rd grade showcase. Families were devastated when that teacher was moved full-time to another Kyrene school.
But we were fortunate again — beyond what we could have hoped — to welcome Ms. Azose in the 2024–2025 year. Not only did she continue and expand upon the previous program’s work, she brought an infectious joy and passion for music that energized our school community. Her commitment was recently demonstrated through the success of our school’s first-ever musical, Aladdin — a massive undertaking that required coordination with multiple vendors & an extraordinary ability to bring out the best in our student performers. And she did it all in less than three months of limited rehearsal time after school hours.
These kids didn’t just perform — they shone. It was breathtaking to witness how Ms. Azose inspired them to sing, dance, and commit themselves fully. My daughter, who joined stage crew because of her shyness, found herself practicing the songs and dances at home — not because she had to, but because she was excited to help create something with her classmates. That kind of student engagement comes from the talent of an exceptional educator.
As a Title 1 school, our school already faces many disadvantages. To once again take away a beloved teacher who is making an impact — and potentially replace her with someone who may not have the same passion or ability to continue this level of music programming — is not only unfair, it’s a step backward. These students deserve consistency, opportunity, and inspiration. Ms. Azose brings all of that, and more.

She went above and beyond with the amazing Aladdin play that she put on and the kids all love her. She helped spark an interest in the arts that is so important for our young ones and we need her to stay at Esperanza.

When 16 of 19 Kyrene elementary schools have retained their music directors for 2 or more years, it is Unacceptable. This does not reflect The Kyrene Promise.
