50 years seems very excessive with the degree of potential errors that seems to be present here. After all these years, 22 to be exact, I think the debt for mistakes made at that young age have been paid to society over and over. Let this guy out, let him have a chance at a good life as an adult. It seems he made a big regrettable mistake. And he has paid the price at this point.
Let’s stop glorifying and immortalizing a sexual predator and twice convicted rapist. He is not a civil rights icon and his name should not be associated with such an important role in our criminal justice system. Find a way to honor the survivors of sexual assault, the legislators who pushed for reform and the activists who fought for civil rights for ALL.
I remember learning about Miranda v Arizona in high school, without specifics of the crimes he was convicted of. He was made out to be a household name, a hero, one that I saw on every police procedural TV show. Only recently I discovered that he originally confessed to rape and kidnapping, which was thrown out in the landmark case, but he was retried AND convicted without the confession, based on other evidence.
I love the civil rights outcome of this case, but I’m monumentally disappointed that it came from an instance of sexual assault. Convictions for sexual violence are incredibly hard to achieve even now, but especially in the 1960s. The fact that Miranda went to trial not once but twice and was convicted demonstrates that he was no victim of an unjust justice system; he just happen to use certain injustices to his own advantage. The Miranda rights or Miranda warnings detailing the 5th and 6th Amendments are crucial, but should not be named by someone whose despicable acts gained him notoriety.
He needs to be held accountable for his actions. It's time to put the monsters that hurt our children away with no remorse for them. This poor child didn't ask to be harmed. This family trusted him, as he has been a family friend for years. It's time for our system to step up and make sure monsters that hurt children never get to see the day of light as their victim will not get to see the day of light, as it was taken from them.
As a mother, who had been separated from my daughter 2 years ago, I know all of this is happening now nationwide! Every single word here is the truth! They lie, they falsify court orders, they rubber stamp them ignoring red flags, and in my case - SA of the minor. It is not a court of a record, it is an inhumane criminal conduct. I stand with your family!
I’m signing because I believe our children deserve a system built on transparency and accountability. I urge you to check out the solutions we've outlined to shed light on the Department of Human Services Child Welfare at https://chng.it/bynpm8nR7z – I think you'll find them both innovative and crucial. Together, we can push for change that truly prioritizes the well-being of our kids.
My son was taken from me in August 2021. I went to Augusta Maine I was only supposed to be there for 2weeks I ended up stranded there for 2 months. I couldn't adapt to the humidity there I was sick everyday I called to cops for help to get my son and I home back to New Mexico. They show and didn't even check my vital signs they accused me of being intoxicated and I told the cop to give me a breathalyzer and I was denied. I have a speech impediment from domestic violence . They accused my of abuse and neglect .My son Is Autistic and nonverbal. I was asking for help to get home and they took my son and threated to arrest me if I put up a fight. The TPR was in October I filed for an appeal and I'm waiting for a new lawyer. These is so much more to my story. My son has just turned 9yrs . I will never stop fighting until my son is home 🙏 ❤️ 🙏
My family has gone through the family court system and thankfully we made it out in one piece. However I can not say the same for other families I have been speaking with and trying to help maneuver the broken and failing corrupt system in family courts. Children are not a pawn in the $ making tools of the courts. They are children and should be the main focus in these courtrooms. Unfortunately they are not.
My beautiful wife, mother of 5, been convicted of 1st degree intentional homicide, for a crime that didn’t even happen. Because of ignorance, corruption, and greed!
