Baseball is a very niche sport in Australia and out professional teams turn losses every year. The new train station is a great opportunity to encourage more participation in sports at all levels - the professional and state league teams inspire children to get active. Added to that there's the potential to host international competitions, not just with the MLB but with Japanese or Korean teams as the Melbourne Aces do. With the future of professional baseball in jeopardy in Australia, government support could be just the ticket. Upgrades to Empire Ballpark are sorely needed, in particular more shade to allow for bigger crowds during games on hot days.
