The issue

Since 2005, during that unforgettable match against Uruguay, Federation Square has become the core of Aussie support for our beloved Socceroos and Matildas. It's a place where fans gather by the thousands, regardless of the time, to cheer for our national teams, encapsulating the passion and community spirit that defines Australian sports culture.

The electrifying moments that Fed Square has witnessed, from the viral goal celebration videos when Mathew Leckie scored against Denmark to Sam Kerr's unforgettable goal against England, have not just made their mark in the hearts of Australians but have also showcased Melbourne as THE premier destination for sports fandom. These events have gone viral, shining a light on our community spirit and the love for the game that permeates throughout this nation.

Despite some previous issues, we believe when policed and controlled effectively, Australians can display their passion and excitement safely and keep Melbourne's rich sporting and football culture alive.

We call on the Victorian state government, City of Melbourne Council, Federation Square and Victoria Police to allow common sense to prevail and screen the socceroos matched at the iconic fed square.
