The immigration numbers are understandably too high, but those with advanced qualifications, working in sophisticated roles and paying high taxes should not be punished for the Conservatives' mismanagement of the immigration policy. I call for clarity in planning and urge the government not to apply the policy changes retrospectively to those who have already made life-changing decisions to commit themselves to life in the UK.

I’ve lived here for over three years, working full-time in the fintech startup, paying taxes, and contributing to the local economy. My wife, also from Ukraine, joined through the Homes for Ukraine scheme and has since switched to a Skilled Worker dependent visa. We recently got married and have made the UK our home, planning our future here, including buying a house and starting a family.
When we applied for our visas, the UK government promised us a clear path to permanent residency after 5 years, and then citizenship. We made our life decisions based on that promise—just like thousands of others who trusted in the fairness and stability of the UK immigration system.
Now, with the proposal to extend the Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR) period from 5 to 10 years, that promise is being broken. This change will hurt people like us—not those arriving illegally on boats or staying in hotels permanently, but people who have followed every rule, integrated into British society, contributed to the economy, and made the UK their home.
This retrospective policy shift is not just unfair—it’s harmful. It will delay home ownership, family planning, and our right to vote in local elections. It sends a damaging message to all legal migrants who trusted the UK's system and upheld their end of the deal.
If the goal is to tackle uncontrolled migration, then focus efforts on illegal migration and exploitation of humanitarian routes—not on penalising legal, skilled migrants who are already here and doing their part.
I urge the government to reconsider these proposals, especially for those who are already in the UK under existing rules. Keep the promise. Don’t move the goalposts.

I’ve seen firsthand how hard immigrants work, how much they sacrifice, and how much they are willing to lose just to give their families a better life. Immigrants aren’t monsters, as some might say, we are people. Because of my family, i know that immigrants bring strength, love, culture, and passion to this country. We deserve to be treated with respect, dignity, and love, just like anyone else. standing with immigrants means standing with families like mine, and i will forever be proud to do so, which is something nicki would never say. promoting cruelty is inhumane and i still don’t get why people who never experienced losing family members due to this mass deportation situation, or even know the kind of sacrifices immigrants go through, are still rooting for trump. Just because Nicki is rich, famous, and is now in favor of trump, doesn’t mean she should be held above the law.
Sofia supported: Deport Nicki Minaj to TrinidadI stand with immigrants and think the mass deportations are terrible and need to stop, but in this case, I have personally seen and been harassed by Nicki Minaj’s fanbase. She weaponizes them to attack people verbally and dox people. It’s an issue of real concern and fear. She has a huge platform and her fanbase is viscous and blindly follow whatever she tells them to do. She is housing a registered sex offender and he failed to register when they moved to California until they got in trouble for it. She has been arrested for criminal possession of a weapon with intent to use, held in Amsterdam on drug charges, has tried to bribe and then bully her husband’s sexual assault victim so she wouldn’t testify, she is being sued by her manager for assault. She is a criminal and now she is trying to interfere with American politics when she isn’t a citizen, which could have dire consequences. She came here undocumented at the age of 5 and has made no effort to become a citizen in the last 20 years (from 18 to 43), but tweeted the president for a green card and surely will try to have her husband pardoned for his sex crimes. Just because she is rich and famous, she shouldn’t be held above the law. If this administration is supposedly only deporting criminals (which is not true, they are mass deporting non criminals too without due process) she is a prime example of a undocumented criminal immigrant and should be sent home to Trinidad. She is a textbook case of narcissistic personality disorder and is spiraling completely out of control. I know there will be more threats from her fanbase to anyone who speaks out against her or even doesn’t like her music. They are lunatics and I fear there will be violence from this dangerous fanbase. She is not above the law and needs to be deported.
