Our homeless need help, if anyone in this condition had a choice for themselves and family, they would need a hand up. Many states do help provide a hot meal and safe place to stay until they can be self sustaining. The homeless could do the work needed, or trained to do so. While they are trying to get a job or get hired, they need a place to dwell. A building could become available in Tampa on the North side, as there are huge vacant places on corner of Nebraska and Fowler Ave. I’m sure there are plenty more availabilities too. If the Governor could support this, it would really be beneficial for the city.
When we had a warming shelter at church I've gotten to really know some of these guys. I know their stories. They want nothing more than to be able to be productive citizens, but once you're homeless it's hard to get back up. Your documents get lost or stolen, hard to save money, basic human care can't be attained and hope begins to get lost. We as people need to have compassion. We are all one situation away from being out there with them. Loss of job, mental health emergency, or even a health emergency. It's time we give a hand up to our brothers and sisters.
My brother was homeless when he overdosed on fentanyl at the age of 39 in 2022. I'm passionate about this shelter being established. Every community needs one. It hurts me to see people on the streets with no resource provided by the community. I don't know how there is no shelter in Alamogordo but they desperately need one. Thank you for this opportunity to better our community.
