Homeless encampments have become a pressing issue in many cities around the world, highlighting the struggles faced by individuals experiencing homelessness. These makeshift shelters often lack basic amenities and adequate resources, leading to health and safety concerns for both residents and the surrounding community. Petitions addressing homeless encampments focus on advocating for affordable housing, access to essential services, and compassionate solutions to end homelessness.
Notable petitions call for increased funding for homeless shelters, improved mental health services for those experiencing homelessness, and policies that prioritize supportive housing initiatives. One petition with thousands of signatures urges local governments to provide safe and humane alternatives to dismantling homeless encampments, emphasizing the importance of offering stability and dignity to vulnerable populations.

I had a very scary experience when one of the them confronted me while I was taking my kids to the RAMAC park. He was high on drugs and not making sense. I tried to disengage and move on but he kept bothering me. I was scared for my kids.
We have had TWO break ins into the house from the SAME perpetrator, belonging to the homeless encampment or circling it for drugs. We had to call the police both times and get the perpetrator arrested. The really concerning part is that even though the perpetrator was arrested the first time and put away, they had to be released later and recommited the crime (and we had to get them arrested again)
We need to get these encampments removed before families get seriously harmed.
We have small children and scared to roam freely on streets because of increasing homelessness. Shoplifting is at its peak. There have been many incidents in the last year and more, since we moved here. The size of encampment grew incredibly and the number of fire incidents that occur, homeless people trying to knock on doors and get into homes does not make me feel safe.
We’ve seen the homeless entering and sleeping on our neighbor’s patios, charging their devices on multiple people’s patios, going through our trash and leaving a mess (which we then have to clean up). They have stolen water from our outdoor faucet. They did graffiti on the tot lot play structure in our community - which one of our community member’s had to clean up. The bigger concern is that if they are getting to the tot lot to do graffiti on the play structures, it means our kids aren’t safe playing there. They have had multiple fire incidents at the encampment. Many of them clearly look like they’re using illegal drugs - some are not fully in their senses if you walk by the encampment. As tax paying residents, we simply want a safe place to live. The area was not this way when we first bought our homes. It has rapidly and consistently deteriorated due to the presence of this homeless encampment. Would it take a major safety incident for the encampment to be abated?
Our community has limited parking resulting in legal street parking. Nearly every single night vehicles parked along the road adjacent to our community are broken into resulting in: stolen items, damaged vehicles, loss in wages during repair time. San Jose has homeless resources so these unpermitted camps should not be allowable. These are also on the same road and just a few blocks from the San Jose PD training compound with dozens of officers passing by each day without a single stop.
We haven't been able to let our kids play in the community, have had multiple instances of package theft, garbage theft, water theft, break-in attempts in the community. Isn't there anyone willing to listen to the tax paying people.
We are scared for our families young and old. Our streets are littered with trash and drugs violence. Our stores are being robbed every day. Cars broken into, house broken into. Our neighbors are all frightened. This has to stop please do something before it's to late.
The encampments are extremely unsanitary and they are making our life miserable
My kids fear going out it wasn’t like this 3 years ago which is why we moved here
