I’ve been going to Mill No. 5 for years now and it has always been by far my favorite place to shop. It has amazing atmosphere and businesses. These small businesses are so unique and creative. I’ve always loved being able to support these local businesses and the community but spending time at the mill. This space will forever hold a place in my heart.

Mill No. 5 is a gem in Lowell, people KNOW Mill No. 5 in Lowell even if they aren't from here. It makes a subpar area much brighter and fosters a sense of community for artists of all kinds. Not to mention the city of Lowell voted against the expansion of public schools, which should have been top priority in this decision.

While I worry that leaving the businesses on the 4th floor and changing their access to only evenings and primarily weekends would mean the businesses can't support themselves, I hope there can be a compromise found to keep the beautiful space, culture, and community that's been built within Mill No 5

We have loved Mill 5 ever since we moved to Lowell in 2015. We would be so grateful if the new owners could figure out a way to preserve this unique place so that my young kids can make their own memories here in the future.

From first dates walking around the shops to intense study sessions at Coffee and Cotton, Lowell will be losing an important hub to creatives and many others. Absolutely heart breaking.

I don't live in the area anymore, but when I come back to visit, one of the places I always go to is Mill No.5. It's a convenient location to catch up with friends, especially in the winter. I thought it brought great character to the city of Lowell. Losing it will be a travesty. Support small businesses always.

The 4th & 5th floors of the mill are an essential and unparalleled walkable third place at the intersection of so many overlapping communities within Lowell, from artists to local small businesses. Losing the Mill would be devastating to the fabric of the entire city. Surely there could be an agreement in which the charter school can leave the 4th & 5th floors of the building to the shops when it takes over the rest of the building.

For the past eight years, every Sunday my family and I have visited Lowell for the farm market, cafe, shops, and vibrant community of Mill No. 5. As I look around my house, there’s not a room that isn’t peppered with things I’ve purchased from this unique gem, representing both Lowell’s history and rich present. Where else can you get coffee, browse an art gallery, buy seasonal soaps, outfit your kitchen, enjoy a root beer float, pick up a new book, and sit down to a movie all in one afternoon? Mill No. 5 is where my daughter learned to walk and learns about running a small business from the shop keepers who’ve seen her grow up, and now return to sell Girl Scout cookies. It’s a wonderful example of building an inclusive, welcoming (even dog friendly!) new community that’s open to all in the warm setting of Lowell’s history. With all that the city celebrates in small business, such as the new General Store, can the city step in to stop this donation and tax write off? A private charter school’s expansion is going to be the death knell for one of Lowell’s jewels, many shopkeepers who’ve invested heavily in the space, and the hundreds of people who bring love and community in a truly unique space.

This is a beautiful space offering a unique draw to Lowell apart from other areas. I understand that this was a private sale, but to lose this space would mean a loss for the city as a whole. The business owners receiving this news at Thanksgiving with two or three months' notice was a brutal hit and I would support a fund for helping them move to another space if needed, but I hope that the charter school reconsiders!

This is an amazing place and has allowed the artist to show their creativity. These types of spaces are what draws people to cities like Lowell . Taking this space away will do a lot of damage to small businesses and the future of Lowell as a potential desitnation.
