Each encounter with Monty was pleasant after the first, Monty arrived and within 5 days I was already over it. As faculty and students I felt the food was subpar, inedible and the menu needed drastic innovation offering foods other than basic southern foods. I was so upset, I had to apologize however in the middle of the dining room Monty stood and took my criticism, harsh critique and apologized and pledged to make the food better. I can admit that Monty did just that. The salad bar improved, I saw many more offerings, I saw paper napkins, infused water, other beverage options, fruits and the students were really happy. Monty is an active listener, he interacts with the students. Perkins can reassess some of the servers because some days they are rude with students and welcome the bad and negative attitude in return.

We need real change and Monty was making them. Now we are back at a stand still. I even saw more workers than I have while he was there. I saw tow dispensers in the restrooms and trash cans, we’ve never had soap in the bathrooms and the sinks don’t even work.

Monty showed up, everyday I went into the Tompkins Hall Monty was there, walking, watching, correcting and leading the Perkins Staff. Breakfast grill for omelets change, pizza now offered on weekends and for breakfast, smoothies and let’s not mention the Waffle Wednesday which were my favorite. Does this sound like a careless leader that lets things slip. I think Monty’s termination require more conversation. If Perkins stands on the termination, what has they provided better. Having people on campus to take pictures and not help isn’t really help at all. Bottom line, Monty had no help.

Monty has been nothing but communicative, thorough and responsive in guaranteeing the needs as the Food Service Director. I have personally witnessed his efforts, replenishment of the line, cooking chicken and fish out the back door, addressing student concerns and more

We have seen no change since Monty left. To be honest the program continues to decline. I went in Friday and could not even eat. Who wants flowers in the cafeteria when Perkins can’t provide food, isn’t food more important. Was Monty really the problem? Call out the food handlers for accountability and the leaders beneath him that are support to be managing the front lines.

I can tell you this for weeks I had attempted to reach Perkins Management staff to book catering requests. I emailed, phoned stopped into the Perkins office and did not receive feedback from the catering director. Days after Monty's arrival, although his catering privileges had not been granted, he took time to hear my concerns and make sure the catering director followed up with my concerns. Thats a good leader, and now to hear this, I can not believe he would reduce the standards of TU and risk his employment. I saw a totally different person. Reinstate Monty and let him rise to his full potential and make TU great, the potential is there. The best leader Perkins has had on site. That's to include the district manager that appears to have her head cut off.

As a student at a HBCU you see some of everything. The first time I actually paid attention to Monty was when the employee Nici Levett threw food in the cafeteria and the campus police department was called. She was in Montys face, ready to punch him, squaring off and he did not flinch a bit. He was concerned about the welfare of each student. That was a leader, not many could have, would have acted the way he did. Monty was calm, and after she was escorted he apologized to all the students and quickly heled to clean the CAF to resume dining services. That's a leader.
