As a member of the rookie team, the BeaverBots and being an active member in the FIRST community, knowing that not only I as an individual had put in hundreds of hours of work into this season, but including my team to get to states, learning that this event would not be rescheduled was absolutely devastating to hear. If there could be a rescheduling for the Chesapeake States competition, it would mean so much for not only me, but for my entire team.

But this year when FIRST cancelled the Regional championship they felt like they were not even given a chance to show their hardwork they put in past few months. Which they felt unfair and I agree with them. They should be given a chance to present their work. Please consider rescheduling.

For example, One team presented five technologies, such as sensors, cameras, and odometry, and we were impressed by both their portfolio and presentation. However, when we reviewed the competition results, we noticed that their robot barely scored any points for all the matches. Similar situations occurred every time I served as a judge. At the most recent event, where I served as a design judge, one team claimed they could do a Level-3 hang in a simple and smart way. However, when I watched their match, they never even tried it. This made it clear that without seeing how the robot actually performs on the field, relying solely on interviews and portfolios can be very misleading.

It's not fair for their championship to be completely cancelled and their opportunity for worlds to be left up to chance or some other such outcome.

My name is Jude Gibson-Thoele, I’m a senior at Allegany High School and have been a member of A-Team for the past 4 years. FIRST has changed my life, that is undeniable, I first started in 3rd grade participating in FLL and up to now FTC. I have learned so much from my hours tinkering with robots and connecting with my community. This season, I walked into as a senior, cherishing each moment, knowing it was the last of my FIRST career. And, as the season progressed we kept getting better, becoming one of six teams in the world to be an inspire award finalist three times in a row. When we qualified for the championship I was flooded with relief as it meant I would be able to continue my senior year run. I spent hundreds of hours meeting everyday after school, crafting a presentation and robot that I believed would give us a shot at our first World Championship. When my team arrived at the competition and heard the news that it was canceled, it felt as if I was watching in third person, unable to move as my last chance to drive my robot fell apart. In truth I didn’t need to go to worlds or win it all, all that I wanted was a chance to display the hundreds of hours of work that I poured into your program, a program that for many of my fellow students is an escape for our creative endeavors. However, it got worse, when we pulled up to our home school after a day of sadness, we looked at our judges sheet to see if we were going to need to meet online the next day. We were dumbfounded by the scores we received, scores lower than we’ve ever gotten, but then when we looked at the top, it had the correct team number but incorrect team name. Hoping for a mixup, we quickly got in contact with you. However, instead of receiving an email apologizing for the mistake and explaining whether or not it was a mixup, we received a copy-paste email saying there was nothing you could do. An email that not only disrespected the work we put in, undermined the unfair circumstances, but also crumpled the respect I had grown for FIRST. How could this be fixed? Well reschedule the competition and redo the judging, it's that simple, there would be teams lining up to host, there is plenty of money available to run this and there are months before the world championship. I don’t need a chance to qualify, I need a chance to display my hard work. With a petition, as of writing this, with over 750 signatures, this is what everyone wants, so don’t ignore us, help us.

As a parent of an FTC team member, I closely see the effort and the numerous number of hours they put in on all aspects of the program. Cancelling one of the major part of the program where kids get to show there robot game due to not having an backup plan to reschedule during inclement weather conditions us not fair on kids.

My team and I have put in too much effort to not compete at the state level. Seeing this happen to other teams is just unfair.
Canon a soutenu : Urgent request to reschedule the Chesapeake Championship for FTCAs a FTC mom for 6 years seeing my senior who couldn’t complete his FTC journey and for it to end abruptly on Sat is absolute disaster. We need an answer from FIRST and this is not acceptable and zero Gracious professionalism followed by FIRST .. Our Kids deserve a fair chance . We are all hoping you would reconsider another date to complete . It’s a robotic competition and we want to see the Robots compete.
