We live in Rockaway where there are such limited options for sports and other after school activities. Aviator has been a place that we’ve turned to for fun, community, and connection. My son is only four but we’ve already gone to Avoator for gymnastics and soccer and were looking forward to many years of activities. It would be such a blow to lose access to these experiences.
As mom of 4, Aviator is our only affordable option to provide kids with a needed physical development. My 2 older kids were lucky to take figure skating classes, and now participate in ninja classes. My hopes were to allow longer kids to gain same skills when they get bigger as well. Closing Aviator will leave my 4 kids with no ability to have any physical development due to prices and ability to physically bring kids. Southern Brooklyn is deprived of all the options kids in other boroughs have, Aviator allows us, the parents to give gift of new skill and physical development to our children. It is place where parents with multiple kids can find different classes for different ages at the same time, making it effective and productive.
Please don't doom kids of South Brooklyn, let our kids shine, learn new skills, and develop.
I figure skate at Aviator, which fulfills my inner being with joy and love. I skate about 12 hours every week. This is my heaven! My mental and physical well being improved because of this place.
Please keep this place open, let's keep the JOYFUL things in our community!
I’m an older gymnast and have been attending Aviator Gymnastic’s classes and private lessons for the nearly 20 years. Now learning that it’s jeopardy of closing. This place is a lifeline for adults, children, and families. Please save our Sports Complex.
I’ve done several sports at Aviator for many years of my childhood. I learned so many things and made countless amazing memories and friendships. It would be a shame to take away that same opportunity from others.
I’ve heard that there’s a possibility of Aviator shutting down, and honestly, that would be a huge loss for everyone who loves and depends on it.
This rink isn’t just a sheet of ice; it’s a second home for so many of us. It’s where kids learn to skate for the first time, where teams build lifelong friendships, and where families spend weekends cheering each other on. It keeps people active, gives young athletes a place to chase their dreams, and even serves as a gathering place that brings the whole town together.
Without it, what happens to all the youth hockey teams, the figure skaters, and the weekend warriors who just want a good pickup game? What about the kids who find confidence and discipline through sports? Not to mention, local businesses around the rink benefit from the traffic it brings. Closing it down wouldn’t just take away a place to skate—it would take away a vital part of our community.
I know there are always financial and logistical reasons behind decisions like this, but I truly believe that with some creativity and community involvement, we can find a way to keep it open. Maybe there are grants, sponsorships, or fundraising opportunities that could help? I’d love to be part of any conversation to explore solutions.
Please reconsider. Aviator is more than just an ice rink—it’s a piece of what makes this town special.
Looking forward to your thoughts, and thanks for taking the time to read this.
Best,
Thomas Matias
My daughter spent so much time in the skating rink that I see the coaches and parents more often than my manager. It is a place full of fun and memory. The training, competing and partying experience has been something money cannot buy, and it will continue to be.
My son is a member of the Xavier High School rugby team. This is Xavier’s home field for rugby and football. My other son has played many soccer matches here. I believe there are a number of other high schools that use this field for practice or as their home field. Space for children to play in NYC is such a critical issue it is imperative that you do not take away a much-used venue.
