We live in SW Virginia. The property being billed is a small hunting cabin that is rarely used. It's generally only heated by pellet stove on days that are at or below freezing, thermostat at 60°. We live in a newer camper (LED lights, etc) that's plugged into the cabin. The camper's heat is run off of propane. We use space heaters sparingly on cold nights. We work and are not home all day.
Last year, we heated the cabin more and ran space heaters more often but were charged fewer kwh. Our bill averaged $150/mo all last year until October this year.
Our power bill was $513.86 for December. The bill includes $125.04 for 'fuel factor', $110.15 in 'transmission services', and $128.34 for 'Distribution services'. AEP claims our usage is double over last year. There's no way we've consumed that much power. We've been more power conscious and have heated less. How can AEP charge hundreds in additional fees that actually cost more than the power?
I don't believe the 'actual' meter readings are correct. Given our situation and lifestyle, I can't see how we could consume double the amount of power. It doesn't make sense.
My mother in law passed away in November. We turned down the thermostat and no one used the house for a month. The December bill was $432 dollars! No way this is accurate. It’s time for accountability and fairness!
Far too many people have been affected by this rate increases that have been happening. There are empty houses that literally have electric bills of 300 plus dollars. Some people's bills have doubled and tripled. You keep saying that you need this increase but there's absolutely no way possible that y'all are struggling for money because you have a monopoly in Virginia. Well it's about time something changes, it's time that you've been held accountable and made to know that you can't get away with this. When the people and the government officials are both saying it then the company is in fact in the wrong.
Myself along with other’s I know have had a significant increase in our electric bills making it near impossible to maintain paying them. My electric bill is almost 200 dollars more with warmer temps than around the same time as last year. A 520 dollar electric bill for a 1500sq foot home for 2 people that are at work most of the day and heat pump set to 64 is insane.
I live in SW VA, thermostat set low, all new appliances, everything is where it's supposed to be no lights etc. Get our bill for this month and it's 630. It's doubled if not tripled. AEP needs to be held responsible. They know we need electricity and we are backed into a corner. We can't afford these types of bills.
I live in Hillsville Va. In the past few years, I moved from North Carolina. When I tell you I was absolutely shocked by a power bill that was over $600. I did not have words. I expected it to be high due to it being winter and living in an old house. I went on the website to see how much more I used. My usage really hadn't gone up compared to the month before and with that month the bill was slightly over $200. Something needs to be done. This is insane!
These 'Fees' are making it impossible. 40 dollars worth of electricity usage equates to a 200 dollar electricity bill. They claim fees are for repairs and running costs that exceed their overhead. Yet the end of the year their profits exceed a billion dollars. Why are we being force to pay an additional fee at their request? How can the determine our power usage spike was higher from 7am-10am when my husband and I was at work while our child was a school from 6am-4pm? Who turned off our power usage? Why are we left to dispute that we don't have electric heat to fight spikes in our power bill stating that is the plausible reason for our increasing bill? When is this going to be answered factually?
