I am a full-time worker, fully disabled, and an Avista customer who is unable to move. Like me, thousands of people in Spokane are being charged three times the rate of other power companies in Washington by Avista. With no other service providers available within the city, we are left with no choice but to pay these exorbitant rates. Isn't this the very definition of a monopoly?

Inland Power has the capacity to serve us here in Spokane; however, we are not allowed to switch providers. This lack of competition allows Avista's profits to skyrocket unchecked - their profits increased 353% from 2022 to 2023. And still is not enough?

The CEO makes over 4.5 million, and the rest of the board of directors make an average of $1.2 million-$1.5 million annually. For a company operating in only 3 states doesn't that seem a little exorbitant?

We need immediate intervention from our local and state representatives to address this issue and ensure fair electricity rates for all residents of Spokane. It's time for us consumers to stand up against this unjust monopoly and demand change.
