This not only affects employees, but also patients and their families. Not only is it difficult (sometimes impossible) for nurses to get down to the cafeteria by 10 pm, but we also admit patients all night long who bring along friends and family who haven’t gotten the chance to step away from them and grab something to eat, possibly all day. Being admitted to the ICU is often times a very unexpected thing, preceded by a very scary and unexpected day. Once their loved one is settled, many times they will finally get a moment to themselves to eat and recoup. This takes away that opportunity for them if it happens to be after 10 pm. Imagine the stress of a very sick or dying loved one added to the fact that you’re exhausted and starving with no options to feed yourself except for chips from a vending machine. On top of that, imagine trying to listen and comprehend the information that doctors and nurses are telling you about your loved one when you’re stressed, exhausted, and hungry.
It’s disheartening to see such disregard for employees, patients, and their loved ones. We have an entire department dedicated to diet & nutrition, that alone shows how important it is. We advocate for patients and families, but who advocates for us?
Madison supported: Extend Cafeteria Hours at Jackson-Madison County General HospitalWhen I worked at JMCHGH, there were many nights I didn’t have time to ge to the cafeteria until midnight or later. It was discouraging not having all the same options as dayshift, but even the limited options available in the cafeteria were helpful so to have that go away would be awful for those who work so hard. Also for labor patients who delivered on night shift, it’s nice for them to have options for food once they’re able to eat. Please consider staying open for those who can’t help what time they’re awake in the hospital.
Kalena supported: Extend Cafeteria Hours at Jackson-Madison County General HospitalThis shuttle makes my already long commute from Milwaukee feel safe. It is a major reason why I felt comfortable coming to Northwestern University.
Kimberly supported: Keep Northwestern's Train Station Shuttle Buses Running!I have been employed at NMH for 15 years. I commute in from Indiana (alongside many other NMH employees) and we rely on the shuttle to get from the Millenium Metra station to work every day. Unfortunately, as we are Southshore train riders (not Metra), the connect pass they are offering as an alternative to the shuttle pass does not apply to us, so we will be paying full price for the monthly CTA pass on top of our monthly train passes. The buses are also not as reliable as the shuttle.
carole supported: Keep Northwestern's Train Station Shuttle Buses Running!Though I currently do not use this service, I will be moving to the suburbs in the coming months, and was looking forward to the ease to my commute that this service would provide. Additionally, as an evening Chicago campus worker, my shifts always end after dark. The ability to take the Train Station Shuttle would have given me extra piece of mind making that longer commute, and it's disappointing to know I won't be able to take advantage of this convenient and safe option.
Laurel supported: Keep Northwestern's Train Station Shuttle Buses Running! This shuttle is so vital for people who work at the hospital, who are treated at the hospital, and who train at the hospital. There are so few direct buses that can get you to the hospital in a reasonable time from the Metra stations, so removing access to this resource would make things worse. It would increase travel times, would affect people’s sleep and even work schedules. I believe it should stay, for the well-being of all of Northwestern!
Ngozi supported: Keep Northwestern's Train Station Shuttle Buses Running!Having a safe and reliable service to and from Union station is important to me. The metra line I use has limited evening service and I will not be able to leave early enough from work to catch a reasonable train if I must rely on the CTA. This will add over an hour on to my already long evening commute and will also add time to the morning commute waiting for unreliable CTA busses and the added time for the extra stops the bus will make. This decision will result in more people driving which defeats the proposed purpose of being a more environmentally friendly option.
Lisa supported: Keep Northwestern's Train Station Shuttle Buses Running! The Northwestern shuttle not only shortens my commute but also significantly enhances my sense of safety while traveling. It’s a service that Northwestern employees truly value, and nearly everyone I know who commutes relies on it. Please keep the shuttle ):
Rachel supported: Keep Northwestern's Train Station Shuttle Buses Running! This is not a good decision and will make many of us have to leave early from work. With the increasing traffic and constant construction, the shuttles can reroute to avoid delays. However, cta busses will always stay on route. The Wacker ramp to Randolph is always backed up and it can take an hour sometimes to get to Union on the bus. Longer than my train commute. Please reconsider this bad decision and support your staff.
Marc supported: Keep Northwestern's Train Station Shuttle Buses Running!I used to ride the shuttle bus. But when I had to come downtown more frequently, it became more affordable to purchase the monthly Metra pass along with the CTA regional pass. However, for others, that is not an option. Being on both sides I’ve come to realize that this will have an impact not only for employees but also for the community. Taking away shuttle buses will add longer lines at the CTA stop which will affect those who had no other option but to depend on public transportation. It is imperative to us as NM employees as well as the community to continue to have shuttle buses as a mode of transportation.
