Elections are formal decision-making processes in which citizens select representatives or decide on policies through voting. Voter rights refer to the legal protections that ensure eligible individuals can participate in these electoral processes freely and fairly, including the right to vote, to access polling places, and to receive accurate information about candidates and issues.

Growing up as a Canadian, I was proud of our country's principles of democracy and right to free speech. I remember when I read Animal Farm for the first time in Grade 6, I was shocked to read of a government built with the interest of its people in mind, but ended up becoming as corrupt as the government they replaced. Part of the reason for this shock was because I believed that it couldn't happen here. However, when I heard the news that Michael Ma crossed over to the Liberal Party, I realized this reality was indeed possible. Many members in our community, including myself, have not been involved in politics until this election. Our community wanted to give our support to the Conservative Party because we believe the Conservative Party's ideas represented our interests the best. By crossing to the Liberal Party, not only is this a violation of our trust, but it also brings us a sadness and anger that our vote has no meaning. I am signing this petition because I am still hopeful that we can get back the power of the people. I don't want to be disappointed anymore every time I hear news about Canadian politics. I want to be a proud Canadian.
Subject: Your Defection Is an Unforgivable Betrayal — Resign Now

Mr. Michael Ma,

I have lived in Markham for 34 years, and like thousands of residents, l never had heard about your name before the 2025 Federal Election. I voted for you only because you represented the Conservative Party. Your decision to abandon the Party and join the Liberal Party, the very voters who elected you is nothing short of an unforgivable betrayal! Our community is furious. We feel blatantly deceived, manipulated, and stripped of our democratic voice.

Your actions have destroyed every ounce of trust we placed in you. I strongly demand that you resign immediately and allow a by-election so this riding can choose someone who genuinely represents us and who we can trust!
Sincerely,
Cordelia Ho
As a voter of Markham-Unionville riding casting my vote to Micheal Ma as a Conservative candidate, I am feeling a sense of colossal betrayal when he cross the floor without any notice and consultation with his constituents. Without his affiliation with the Conservatives party, I definitely would not vote for him. He must resign to let citizens of his riding to choose a new MP.
What Michael Ma did is an absolute betrayal of those who voted for him as a Conservative representative. By crossing the floor, he has effectively abandoned the mandate given to him by voters. Switching parties means he no longer represents the views of those who elected him, and therefore lacks a legitimate mandate to continue as an elected official.
As a voter in the Markham–Unionville riding who cast my vote for Michael Ma, I was not made aware of any notice, consultation, or intention to change party affiliation. This decision was made without the consent of his constituents. He should resign and allow the citizens of his riding to choose a new Member of Parliament.
By chasing the position of Prime Minister, Nigel Farage is saying that he wants to represent and lead the British people. I certainly don’t want him to have that power but, at the very least, he should be able to prove his honour and be transparent about his presumably legal tax status. If he can’t do that, how can we trust him to do anything with our public money?
I am increasingly disturbed by this man getting super cover on the media to spread his vile hate and misinformation. I also feel that his lifestyle and financial backing should be transparent if he wishes to be a politician and represent ordinary people in Parliament. Make him show that all his dealings are above board. Make him more accountable.
