Elder Rights refer to the various protections and considerations aimed at ensuring the well-being of older adults. This includes ensuring fair access to healthcare, financial security, affordable energy, and employment opportunities. The goal is to support older individuals' quality of life and dignity in society.

Financial security concerns for older adults include the need to guarantee or increase the State Pension to provide sufficient income in retirement. Policies like the 'Triple Lock,' which protects pension increases, are important. There are also issues with tax thresholds for pension income that affect retirees' financial stability.

Affordable energy is essential for older adults to safely heat their homes, cook meals, and have adequate lighting. High energy costs can disproportionately impact the elderly, making it difficult for them to maintain basic living standards and comfort.

Healthcare access concerns for older adults include continuing routine health screenings such as mammograms for women over 71. Ongoing medical care is important to detect and manage health conditions early, supporting longer and healthier lives.

Employment issues for older adults include opposition to job reductions caused by automation, particularly in large retail sectors. Maintaining employment opportunities for older workers is a key element of ensuring their economic independence and social inclusion.

It’s important to recognise that Freeview Tv is still widely used. Not every older person has either access to the internet nor the help of a family member to help navigate it. My aunt when she was alive struggled with the Freeview channels and couldn’t comprehend how the internet/mobile phones worked .
They have not considered poor people who cannot afford expensive contracts and tv is their lifeline and especially if they are disabled this is very unkind
I am 81 with disabilities and struggle to understand the fast paced, ever changing world of technology. I receive pension credit and struggle to pay my energy bills and eat good food. Losing Freeview would be cruel and thoughtless for many people like me
My husband has to attend Moorfields Hospital every month. We are both elderly pensioners and travel on the tube to get there as I need to accompany him. This will put a huge strain on our resources if we have to pay. Yes other areas do not get this benefit but Londoners have extra costs anyway living in the most expensive area in the UK.
So under these proposals if you are 60-66 using an oyster card you would still qualify for free tube/train in London yet when you reach the age of 66 most of these will be taken away, just when you are likely to retire, have less income and no chance of another employment. How can that be justified. Surely it would be better to restrict for 60-66? Or preferably not at all
We are not all wealthy pensioners. The majority of pensioners have their state pension and a small private pension that takes them over the threshold to claim pension credit. Most of these MPs and presenters are very well paid and seem to forget the majority of pensioners are struggling. Reinstate the Winter Fuel Payment for all pensioners. It is disgusting that MPs and economic migrants get free heating whilst pensioners get the cold shoulder. You are told to save for your old age and when you do the government punish you. I am not of state pension age yet because the government moved the goalposts. Why does the government appear to begrudge the pensioners a retirement. We have money for Net zero, wars, foreign aid but nothing for farmers and pensioners. This country is a disgrace.
I'm 72 and a widower. I have a small annuity that as from the last pension increase is now being taxed, after the next pension increase it will probably all go in tax! Unfortunately being an annuity I can't "cash it in" so the Government will benefit from me trying to safeguard my old age!
we pay huge amount of tax during our working lifewhilst we plan and save for our retirement, only to get taxed again on our savings and pension. It is time for this to stop and to at least reward those who save and plan with no tax on our pensions, If this does not happen then, why bother to save at all?
