The demands are reasonable and the person who wrote really understand the situation that Nsfas student at Unisa suffers from

this paper was not representative of how other past papers have looked in the past, the questions were abstract and difficult.

I'm a maths teacher. I did the paper with my colleagues yesterday. It is the first paper I've ever done that I couldn't complete in time. An A Level paper usually takes me 55-90 minutes. There was no point in the paper that I could take confidence in an answer. There were many incidents where not getting the solution to part a made part b inaccessible. The question structure disadvantaged average and weak students- eg if you could not access the radians question, you couldn't do the Newton Raphson. This means if you have insecure knowledge in some areas, you may not get the marks for areas of secure knowledge. Time saving 'tricks' eg use of symmetry in sin function disproportionately benefit further maths candidates. The differential equation was unnecessarily fiddly and full of pitfalls- an average student could not gave done that question (if they could at all) in 11 minutes for the 11 marks. The only other time I have complained about a paper, the only complaint Edexcel upheld was that they'd used deliberately obscure product notation for a simple integration. Imagine then mu surprise that they've done it again! Luckily I think most teachers teach it now after we were bitten last time. Students found this exam demoralising and stressful. It didn't need to be this bad, and it cannot possibly test across the ability range. Weak students will have given up based on this experience. Does anyone actually test run these papers? What is the quality control process???

What’s the point in a show me question if you can’t complete part b and c of the question without part a?

Walking out that exam hall, I couldn't feel any of my senses, couldn't see properly because of the tears rolling down my face, couldn't hear properly because of the trauma warping my hearing. All i could feel was sadness and rage. I spend what felt like my entire life preparing for this exam. But nothing could have prepared me for whatever the devil wrote on those pieces of paper. My brain cannot comprehend what happened that afternoon, frankly I'm surprised I am even able to write this, but I persevere, so you too can express your story without having the pain to write it out and experience it once again. Truly a nightmare that I would never want to experience again.
