This is IMPORTANT to me! Please sign this on behalf of all of the kids who struggle with learning to read! They need our voices to stand up and declare they require tools PROVEN to work!
We do NOT need more of the same poorly performing tools "we've always used." We KNOW how to overcome true dyslexia and have for decades, if we'd actually follow the proven methods!
I received training in the Orton Gillingham method and was able to teach my child with severe dyslexia how to read in 3 years AFTER my child had been in public school for 5 years. There they received reading resource services and still couldn't read going into 5th grade.
We pulled our kids out of public school. We started homeschooling using the PROVEN methods and they worked fabulously.
There's really NO REASON kids with dyslexia can't be screened and taught with proven tools these days!! We've known how to overcome dyslexia for 50+ years!! WHY do we continue to use programs that have been researched and proven to be INEFFECTIVE ???
We need to stop letting schools choose whatever they prefer and hold them accountable to use tools and programs proven to work!!
Please, even if you have no personal experience with or knowledge of dyslexia, for the sake of kids who simply need proven programs to help them learn to read, PLEASE SIGN THIS PETITION!!
Our kids deserve a better future backed by science-driven results. I want to fight for other kids to have the opportunities that my child was denied before seeking private options to remediate years of unfounded reading techniques. We need to stop failing these children!
PLEASE use evidence based screeners to support our educators to ensure students receive early intervention! It has taken SO many years to begin to move the needle here in GA. I became an OG Fellow in order to train educators in structured literacy because of what my now 30 year old son encountered in public schools!
Stay the course!! It matters!
Throughout my career as an English & History teacher, I have seen the difference high quality, evidence-based interventions make in the lives of students with dyslexia. I have also seen how kids flounder when inadequately supported in the face of learning difficulties. The right tools in the hands of the right people will make a world of difference for students struggling with literacy. Let's get GA teachers the best possible tools.
As a retired early childhood educator, I want to see our Georgia students get the education they deserve. Currently, we are failing our dyslexic students. important to get the screening of our young children done early and correctly. The 4 top screeners shoud be the only ones approved for use in our schools. The plan to include other screeners just because they are currently used is a detour leading to more failure.
Section 504 has been a lifeline for so many people, and it’s essential that our voices are heard. Its impact reaches far and wide, touching the lives of mothers (or fathers), veterans, and individuals of all ages. It plays a crucial role in our health, education, safety, and so much more.
As someone with disabilities, I carry dreams and hopes for a brighter future, and I truly want to make a positive difference.
The removal of Section 504 would mean taking a step backwards for our society. It would strip away our freedoms and basic human rights—rights that every individual deserves. I ask you, not just for the sake of others, but also for your own wellbeing. Each of us will feel the consequences if this essential support is taken away, and it will inevitably impact our loved ones too.
I genuinely believe that the world is capable of kindness and compassion. I implore you to consider this deeply. Please, let’s not lose what has been fought for so hard. Together, we can strive for understanding and progress. Please 🙏
