Athletics Australia definitely owes Juju an apology for not allowing her to run in her 400m race and high jump in her disability category which had made provision for her to compete in these two events. Other athletes were allowed to have their coach assist them, but Juju was not allowed to have her carer to assist her which is grossly unfair, unjust and deeply discriminatory. She has missed out on an opportunity for excellence as she has undoubtedly put a lot of discipline into her events, she obviously has a great love for these specialty events, and she is obviously immensely talented in these events. Athletics Australia has robbed Juju of this opportunity to compete and possible medal if she had won or had a place in these two events. The Methodist School have rightly apologized for their discrimination against her and Athletics Australia also ought to apologize for their discrimination against Juju.
I have a son who is autistic, but he has won numerous medals including gold and bronze and silver, so yes I will support Ju Ju and send a message to her and people like her who have had their standing in the community questioned and compromised in the worst way possible, so stand tall girl and know that a lot of people are standing with you and support you as well.
I saw the video which mentioned how Juju was going to compete but got denied access last minute. As an autistic person myself, I know how upsetting it is to have plans cancelled last minute. This is outright discrimination and there most likely has been some kind of legal breach.
Juju has worked so hard, investing her time and effort to prepare for the competition. There is no reason that she shouldn’t be allowed to receive assistance - external from the race itself - to be able to participate. Not only is juj heartbroken, but so is everyone else who has been supporting her in her goal to compete. We should be striving towards equity and inclusivity, not exclusion and prejudice.
My son experienced the same at state nsw. He has Cerebral Palsy and is Blind - He was disqualified for running with a guide (he is blind) because you can only be either blind or physically impaired not both. he came last in the 100m ran 30+ seconds behind the winner and was disqualified

Having a daughter with special needs myself, and knowing the struggles of fighting every little thing to get their human rights.. Im disgusted in this, why one year it's allowed and the next not! I'm sure none of the athletes even care, they would just be happy to see her compete like the rest of ua
It is shocking that athletics australia is limiting the opportunities of people with disabilities to participate in sport. Denying a support person is discrimination and it’s disappointing to see.
I have no words - Australian Athletics, this is a disgrace. As a sport which consistently attracts high levels of participation from people with disability, and has produced a ton of Paralympic champions, surely you can do better. I don’t know Juju personally but I do know the positive impact these opportunities can have for people facing barriers - to take them away for no reason is simply backward.
