Making Election Day a federal holiday in the United States could increase voter turnout by providing citizens with more time to vote without work conflicts. In the 2020 election, 13.1% of registered voters who didn’t vote cited being too busy or having scheduling conflicts as the reason. Additionally, such a holiday would celebrate democracy, turning voting into a nationwide event. This approach aligns with practices in other countries and has significant public support; a Pew Research Center survey found that nearly 80% of Democrats and nearly 70% of Republicans favor making Election Day a federal holiday.
They had us sign a input and it's like they got thrown in the trash. So many people are against this. For myself I live one block from Jefferson school how will this benefit my grandchild that we adopted that has hard enough time in life. Get used to one thing and get ripped from another
My two boys who are grown now went to Goodview when it first opened. It was great that it was a neighborhood school and the friends they made they could maintain that friendship after school hours because everyone was in same area not bused in or transported to a different area after or before school hours.Neighborhoods and community is just as important as the school itself that the children are sent to!
I am against the reconfiguration bill. Goodview school is where my mother attended school, where my sister & myself went and now my two daughters go as well. With each generation there has been growth within the school and its amazing staff. Goodview school goes above and beyond for their students. From the inclusive environment & educational opportunities, to the caring staff who go above and beyond for our children, and social opportunities for the students. I strongly feel this reconfiguration is not for the benefit of the students and I know I am not the only one who feels this way. Children NEED exposure to different age groups for proper cognitive and social development. The older students have the opportunity to be role models and the younger students have someone to look up to in mixed age groups. There would be no opportunity for social growth with the reconfiguration bill, which affects mental health and educational growth. Not to mention the dramatic change to a new school every single year! The emotional stress that would do to a child of any age gives them feelings of displacement and insecurity. I hope that board will change their mind, because this is not their lives and future it affects but our children’s!!
I'm against this reconfiguration bill. I spent most of last summer researching schools in the area for my kids my son has multiple medical problems along with speech delay and it breaks my heart seeing that they are trying to pass this to break up schools families staff and kids lives 💔. I chose waps because of the amazing staff support the family feel they give knowing my kids names instead of just being another kid to teach. This would be really hard and not fair to my kids if they have to switch to another school and be separated from there peers they know and love.
I am not for the reconfiguration. My daughter (kindergarten) started school at Jefferson this year in the Spanish program. She has had a hard time in the morning with the transition from pre-K to a bigger school. She has cried and clung on us to not have to go in. The staff at the door have made a relationship with her to make her feel more comfortable in the mornings. She still has days where she does this but for the most part she’s getting more comfortable. This would seem unfair to her to have to restart next year in an unfamiliar building with unfamiliar faces. We live in Stockton. The distance of a drive or even a bus ride to W-K is not ideal for us as well. This would be a 20 minute drive with parent drop off (twice a day) and a much longer bus drive with a child who already has some fears and anxiety of being in new places or with people she doesn’t know.
My child attenda Rios Spanish Immersion and has struggled with parting with parents in the morning. He has flourished since becoming comfortable with his school at Jefferson and all the helpers who work there. He has so much anxiety about having to start all over again just as he started feeling safe. I don't feel like their has been enough information or justification for this reconfiguration communicated with those who will be affected. I feel there should have been better communication before a final decision was made.
I went to Goodview when I was growing up, and I can't begin to say how grateful I am that I had the chance to attend such a wonderful school. I made the decision to enroll my children at Goodview so they could thrive in a smaller school environment. I want both of my children to continue going to the school they love. Not only would the choice to take grades1-4 out of our school be devastating to families like ours, but it would also cause difficulty to have to run our kids to several different school. The extra running would then effect our work schedules. Not to mention we would be losing so many wonderful Teachers who care about our childrens furure. Please reconsider your decision to remove grades 1-4 from Goodview.
