No matter who you are, or what is happening in life, you always deserve the right to get a higher education. Knowledge isn’t just power, it’s the way of life. This young man has struggled and faced hardships, let his hard work pay off!
I’m fortunate to be comfortable in my bed, with a full stomach, four strong standing walls around me, electricity on and a school down the road. Omar deserves more than me. I’ve been watching their daily vlogs online for a couple months, and sharing their honest reports. I’m begging with all my heart that you can look past his skin and his nationality and see a young man eager to learn, and ready to give back to his community. Omar is the future of Palestine; he is a living vessel of his family’s hopes and dreams. He’s still a brilliant and selfless young man with big dreams, what makes him less worthy of a good life than anyone else? Any Palestinian or immigrant knows that coming into the USA you have to work 10 times as hard simply because you’re different. So please sacrifice less than a minute of your time to do something good and make life a little easier on him. With what happened last year the chaos stopped many Palestinian children including Omar from going to school this may be his final chance at a proper education. He’s seen enough of his family and friends dying, his homeland being destroyed around him. The mere thought of having to constantly live in fear saying goodnight to your family not knowing if you’ll live to see the next morning, is enough to drive someone insane. I’m urging you to please help in any way you can. We in the USA are more privileged than Omar, yet he is more deserving.
Considering that Dartmouth is an institution in the United States, a country that is arming and funding the very genocide that threatens Omar's safety, the absolute least they could do is use their Ivy League money and influence to do whatever it takes to get him here.
As a teacher, I believe everyone in the world deserves education alongside their basic safety, human rights, and a high quality of life. Help this determined young man achieve his goals and guarantee his future.
As an immigrant myself, I know the struggles when it comes to being in a new country, it was a cultural shock. But a beautiful one. We as a collective can never know what Omar went through. It’s a miracle that he’s still alive today and willing to get something out of the hand that he’s been dealt with. Give him a chance Dartmouth, and I have a special feeling that you guys are not going to regret it!
Education should be accessible to every single person on the planet. Any Ivy League institution should pride itself in being able to increase accessibility to education. If Omar risked everything to apply to Dartmouth, shouldn’t Dartmouth do everything and more in its power to bring him to campus?
I’m the child of immigrants and want to support this young man’s human right to turn his hard work and energy into a better future for himself and his family.
Education is a human right!! We’ve seen the world take so much from people during the Genocide of Palestine, let’s us all do something to bring a better and brighter future to our collective humanity. Inshaallah🕊️ Omar is a gem in these dark times and despite his circumstances he continues to persevere and serve his community. Dartmouth would learn so much about life from him.
