4 supporters are talking about petitions related to Cricket Ground!
As a cricketer myself and fan of the sport I find this decision absolutely ridiculous and embarrassing. Cricket has been around in the UK for centuries and is a pivotal part of communities in both village and towns. The impact from a minor incident to suspend all forms of cricket affecting 3 clubs is shameful. The positive grass roots of cricket not only for juniors but adults and the mental health benefits of sports in general has to be the main driver here not a minor incident where someone got hit by a ball and complained, that’s cricket! This is the 2nd most popular sport in the world.
I hope the parish council gives their heads a shake and realise this decision is silly, short sighted. Perhaps need some funding taken away as a punishment it’s not like anything is cheap these days to replace it with.
I’m absolutely heartbroken that Danbury Parish Council have made the decision to close the cricket ground.
Cricket has been played in Danbury since 1799 and currently have 3 teams of players.
It’s a British 🇬🇧 Tradition of Cricket in our villages and this is a disgrace and insult to all local villagers.
Solidarity to all cricket clubs affected by this ludicrous decision.
These clubs are a staple to the village, bringing teams, players and members together from all over Essex to celebrate a long running history of inclusivity and tradition in sport.
Hoping that Danbury Parish Council can see the error here and the irony of their actions, that are undermining their own ethos of protecting and serving the history and the people of the local community.
Their ruling breaks down local ties and is destroying the great work these teams do (past and present) to promote unity and act as a focal point of heritage, community and traditional sport in the local area.
Hopeful that Danbury Parish Council will reverse their ill-judgement and that we will see village cricket return to Danbury very soon.
