The Issue

Cricket has been a cornerstone of my life, offering not just a sport, but a community, a fraternity, and a shared journey toward common goals. It encapsulates life's essence, with its peaks of triumph and inevitable valleys of defeat. Beyond these personal experiences, cricket serves as a vital development pathway, nurturing skills and spirit, both on and off the field, for our youth.

The abrupt decision by the Danbury Parish Council to suspend all forms of cricket has left our three local teams – Danbury CC, Tuskers CC, and Oakland's CC – without a home ground, frantically searching for temporary venues. This decision not only disrupts these teams but threatens to sever a tradition that has been interwoven into the fabric of Danbury's community life for over three centuries, with written record of a match in 1799.

Cricket is not just a game; it is part of our national heritage and collective tapestry, celebrated by both residents and visitors alike. Its discontinuation would strip away a source of joy and unity that binds our community and preserves the village's cultural identity.

Danbury's cricketing legacy deserves to be protected and cherished. By reinstating cricket matches, we uphold a cherished heritage, support local talent, and continue to foster community spirit. Please sign this petition to urge the Parish Council to reverse their decision and restore cricket to its rightful place in Danbury. Let's ensure that future generations can experience the same joy and camaraderie that cricket has brought to us and our predecessors.
