I am a stepdaughter of a retired CO. I can remember times when he came home really late due to having to be in the hospital due to an inmate biting him. There were a lot of times where he would work 12 hour shifts or even do doubles. That was not safe for him nor the inmates.
Now I have a granddaughter who wears the BLUES proudly! I fear everyday that she is safe from harm and diseases.
The scare is real folks!!! If you haven't worked behind the walls or a family member of someone who is, you don't have any idea of what it's like. For those of us who have had that experience, it's very scary and you always worry if your love one will be home safe and on time. We have to make these prisons safer!!
I STAND WITH OUR BLUES!!!!
Im looking for safety for my father and other correctional officers and everyone else working inside the prison or even outside of it. Id rather know that my dad is in a safe environment than not being in a safe environment. Not knowing if he's going to make it back home breaks my heart every single day.
I have lived in Upstate NY almost all of my life. I think most people from Upstate feel as though we don't matter. It seems like EVERYTHING is focused on NYC...& that's all that matters to Albany.... at least where Hochul is concerned. She DEFINITELY does NOT care about New Yorkers, she is ONLY worried about lining her pockets!! What she has done to New York, I am ashamed that she is from here!! She is treating our correctional officers like pure Trash...& the inmates have more rights, with No consequences anymore for acting up... thanks to Hochul "the ABSOLUTE WORST" governor NY has EVER had.
After working in NYSDOCCS for 7 years, I needed to find better for my own physical and mental health, as well as that of my family. Unfortunately, my spouse wasn’t as lucky and has to deal with these daily stressors, still. It’s unfortunate that you are now being asked to sell your soul in order to earn a living. Do more with less. Do as we say, not as we do. Run things the right way, but make sure that you’re not taking too long or that will be considered job action. It’s all too much. Stop treating your employees as criminals!
I have a brother and many relatives that are correction officers that I worry about daily my brother has a brand new baby and a 8 yo son and wife at home and this is gotten so out of hand we need to fight for our loved ones!!!!!
As a former Corrections Officer in the state of New Mexico and current military personnel, I stand with these brave men and women in their demands to make a safer work environment. The State Governor Hochul has been trying to turn our correctional facilities into Day spas filled with career criminals. This would never fly in New Mexico, it sure as hell shouldn’t fly here in New York. State lawmakers need to pull their head out of their ass and look at the real picture here. We have hardened criminals behind those walls that do not care about the life and safety of others. It is a Warzone walking into those units every day, Numbers 50 inmates to 1 guard, maybe sometimes more than 50. Rescind the HALT act, impose the stricter vetting of inmate mail, cell searches and visitation. Do not make NYS another laughing stock in the country Hochul!
I was an officer from 2004-2018. I got out early because the environment was declining so horribly for officers. The lack of support from NY politicians is disgusting.
Having family and friends that are COs I’m saddened and angered by these conditions these men and woman are having to work through. It is not only unhealthy for them all but unfair to themselves and their families! Make things right by correcting your damn mistakes for ALL these brave Men and Woman!
