Conservation is a critical topic that focuses on protecting and preserving the environment, wildlife, and natural resources for future generations. Recent trends show a growing concern for climate change, deforestation, and endangered species. Petitions in this category address issues such as reducing plastic pollution, increasing renewable energy use, and stopping harmful practices like trophy hunting and deforestation.
Notable petitions center around saving endangered species like the rhino and the orangutan, advocating for the protection of their habitats and stricter penalties for poaching. Another petition highlights the urgency of reducing plastic waste by calling for bans on single-use plastics and promoting recycling initiatives.
Take action by supporting these petitions and contributing to the global efforts towards conservation. Your involvement can make a real impact in preserving our planets biodiversity and ensuring a sustainable future for all.
Red tail hawk. Great Horned Owl. Screech owl. Coopers hawk. These are the 4 main raptors of city, suburb, and campus. They eat rats and mice. Poisoned rodents kill whole families of raptors, making them bleed internally, it's a horrible death. These bait boxes should be removed immediately. Raptors are a rodents worst nightmare. Let's nature do it's job. STOP THE POISON.
Very disappointing, a decision made with no forethought, no warning and no justifiable cause. Will undo decades and millions of dollars of efforts to preserve this unique ecosystem. We are the stewards of this land and we are failing it - our children and the rest of the world will look back at these decisions and hate us for it.
Why?for the love of god.... please please tell me why this has even got to this point of us as a human race...having to petition to stop the pain and suffering of living creatures that have a right to be here and are ABSOLUTELY crucial to the ongoing harmony and eco system of our planets very excistence! and that aside...how so mindless we are to not see that the ocean is what gave us our beginning... as a child before i was even influenced or brain washed by people or society or even my parents i was deeply interested in documentaries on our planet... the ocean and everything in it always facinated me so deeply... i use to collect a magazine collection that came out each week at my local newsagent that educated me on sealife and explained and taught me alot.. my first magazine was about sharks and i learned how many hundreds of species of sharks there was in the ocean at that time and was fascinated by the "hammerhead"shark... i was only 11.. i thought to myself "how amazing is that that a creature can push out his jaw and swim so fast and catch his food?!" i remember thinking "i cant swim that fast!"... i then even at that age thought to myself and realised without influence that as human beings we are not that smart...Im so deeply and always have been hurt by mindless unthoughtfull behaviour by people against animals or creatures without a voice...i use to think to myself... "if they could speak what would they say? i would look into the eyes of an animal...and see there pain.. the eyes of anything can tell you so much if you see deeply enough....we are pathetic as human beings, brainwashed by poltics, drama and the love of power...do we think we are immortal? We have become selfish, mindless, and we have evolved as a species not using our blessed power of voice for the greater good of anything or anyone, but our own selfish need for validation as a person or to show power...it hurts to the pit of my stomach that we are so consumed by power, ego, status. When these people in power that can quite easily turn this all around.. realise that the following they will receive for acting with compassion would be more powerfull and in tune with the people more so than the way they do it now...othetwise i hope they realise this...yoir real calling will be when you reach the gates of heaven and you face yourselves, then you will say "oh dear god im sorry i had the power to change these issues but i didnt"...its to late..dont let that be your last calling. Peace and respect by us to all creatures great and small is what will make this world a better place..
I worked many years to conserve the wildlife on and around an island off-shore of the main Hawaiian Islands. The protections of marine protected areas like this one are critical too maintaining a healthy ecosystem in the oceans and on the islands they are adjacent to. There are millions of square miles that remain unprotected and open for fishing. There is no need to strip this MPA of protections other than greed. I urge you to maintain the protections of this MPA for generations to come.
What a short sighted and reckless decision. This will destroy decades of progress and restoration in one of the most biodiverse regions of the Pacific, harming the reefs, islands, wildlife and local communities that depend on this special region of the world. Plus, studies have shown that protecting marine areas from fishing will increase the catch in nearby areas, as the recovering fish populations “spill over” to areas nearby. Even the fishing industry won’t benefit from this decision. We need to expand protections for our oceans, not rollback the few we have.
There are organizations trying to stop this massacre so get in touch with them. I am pretty sure humans have something to do with why there are so many barred owls there but of course, it is the owls who will pay with their lives. We have many barred owls where I live and hearing and seeing them is a delight. I know Spotted Owls need help but this is not the way to do it. Whenever there is a problem, I would say there is a 98% chance that it is because of our own species, the most dangerous and really, the only true invasive one on the planet.
out-of-town charlatans and self-righteous profiteers descend upon Wilmington, blind to the devastation they leave in their wake. We’ve seen this before. We know how this story ends.
Our home is being consumed. Wilmington, Pender, Brunswick our forests, wetlands, and coastline sacrificed for soulless developments and corporate greed. The government, elected to protect its people, has turned its back on us. Rather than safeguarding the land and the residents who depend on it, they cater to investors and out-of-state transplants who view our communities as nothing more than their next conquest.
But this isn’t just about Wilmington. This is the systematic erosion of our way of life. Our last, irreplaceable sanctuaries critical to wildlife, flood mitigation, and the ecological balance of this region are vanishing before our eyes. And once they are gone, they are gone forever. Do we truly want a future where every remaining stretch of green is buried under concrete? Where worsening floods, environmental degradation, and overcrowding choke the very essence of the place we call home?
They do not want negotiation. They do not want reasoned discourse. They fear the inevitable backlash from locals who refuse to accept this wholesale destruction. So instead, they stifle opposition, hoping no one notices until it is too late.
We cannot let this fight remain confined to whispers of local dissent. This must be exposed on a state-wide
levelbefore everything is lost. Share this with your friends, your neighbors, your churches, your local bars. Spread the word on social media and in everyday conversation. This affects all of us, regardless of opinions on growth, housing demand, or Wilmington’s increasing congestion. There are better solutions ones that respect both progress and preservation. Our voices must be heard.
I moved here many many years ago because of the beautiful landscape and abundance of wildlife. I am so sad this could happen to this old forest. There aren’t many left in the United States.
Brunswick and new Hanover counties are wildly overdeveloped. It’s one thing to build roads and housing but tearing down woodlands to build another housing development/golf course that’s mimicked all through our connecting counties is pointless. It seems silly that we keep having to have this conversation with educated adults that should understand the importance of these natural lands. All they see is dollar signs.
