I’m so heartbroken to hear this. The church is such a wonderful institution and presence in the community. I’ve volunteered with the fort fridge team a number of times and seeing the impact it has on so many in the community is heartwarming. I just can’t believe such an essential institution would be shut down!! I really hope this decision is reconsidered!
They provide an essential space for the community, hosting events like Halloween, board games, QuestFest, as well as a place for classes and other things that probably couldn't exist without access to a space like this.
Ft. Washington is a landmark in the Upper Manhattan community... its progressive theology, social involvement, and open-armed community outreach have not only benefited my family but countless others whom I know personally. Please keep this treasure open to increase your impact and mission in this world!
Fort Washington Collegiate Church is a community anchor. FWCC offers a multitude of neighborhood activities: community gardening, food availability through “The Fort Fridge” for those in need, a home to community arts organizations, and twelve step meetings, to name a few.
As a member, it has been a personal rock in my life for the past 10 years.
I know that many people are in agreement that closing the doors will leave a large personal hole as well as a crater in the neighborhood. Please stand with us to turn this decision around.
Fort Washington Collegiate Church is absolutely vital to our community. It houses multiple religious groups, cultural activities, and important community events that nourish people spiritually and materially. To let it go is to destroy our neighborhood.
Ft. Washington has served as my spiritual home and a community space to gather with friends and family for years. In a time of so much division, Ft. Washington serves as a unifying force opening its doors to all and actively supporting and platforming LGBTQ+ and POC voices. Losing this space, the community garden, and the vital services Ft. Washington provides would cause irreparable harm to the fabric of our community. We ask the Consistory to reconsider its decision to close Ft. Washington and help ensure that it continues to thrive!
Ft. Washington means so much to me and my spouse. We came h÷re o er 13 years ago. I as a transperson was accepted with open arms. The church means so much to the community.
This icon of the neighborhood is a landmark for many communities that live here. There has to be another solution other than wholesale selling it and replacing it with just more commercial real estate. There are religious communities, arts groups, and many others who rely on this space. Religious spaces are slowly disappearing across the city. Don’t let this be another one.
